School is back in session and the fall routine is beginning to fall into place once more. The Manitou Youth Soccer Association began with registration and their first practice Sept. 9. The practices are being held every Monday and Wednesday from 4 to 5 P.M. at the field next to Manitou Evangelical Free Church.

All children born in 2008 or later are welcome to sign up. Further information can be obtained from Karrie Blackbeard.

Minor hockey registration was held Sept. 5 to co-incide with the organization's annual meeting. There are six categories - IP, novice, atom, peewee, bantam and midgets. There is still time to register but a late fee will apply. Contact Sarah Hein for more information.

The Province of Saskatchewan has mandated the number of instructional minutes required in a year for all schools. Because of this, Neilburg Composite School has had to add 10 minutes to the school day. Since there are buses shared between the schools at Neilburg and Marsden and many of the younger students have very long days already, it was decided to take the 10 minutes out of the lunch hour.

The walk bell for elementary students rings at 8:45 a.m. Classes start at 8:55 with the first recess at 10:30. After a 15-minute break, it is back to the books till noon. Students have just 15 minutes to eat lunch and then are able to go outside to play until 12:40 p.m. when the afternoon classes begin. The second 15-minute recess is from 2:15 until 2:30, with the school day ending at 3:15 p.m. The high school schedule is similar but instead of two recess periods, they have "plus time" from 11:30 to noon.

Students from Neilburg Composite School are gearing up to participate in the annual Terry Fox Walk/Run during the afternoon Sept. 20. Please be generous if you are asked to make a pledge to one of the participating students.

A quick reminder that Neilburg Composite School is a peanut- and nut-free school. Please do not send any items with nuts, peanuts or peanut butter in your child's lunch.

School magnet calendars are available for pickup at the office. A welcome week barbeque was held Sept. 6, with hot dogs and hamburgers on sale.
