Battlefords and District Community Foundation recently awarded scholarships from the Hazel Asmussen Fund and the Peter Lewochko Fund.
Allysha Dyck is the 2014 winner of the Hazel Asmussen Fund scholarship for students taking post-secondary education in the fine arts. Allysha will be starting at OCAD University (formerly Ontario College of Art and Design) this fall. She is interested in costume design and has been sewing since the age of five. This year's scholarship is $1,002.
Tiandra Ewanchuk and Kathleen Foreman were awarded scholarships from the Peter Lewochko Fund. This competition is open to students taking agriculture, education or engineering. Both winners will be attending the University of Saskatchewan. Tiandra is graduating from John Paul II Collegiate and entering the College of Agriculture and Animal Biosciences. Kathleen has taken her first year of classes at North West Regional College and is entering the College of Education. Each was awarded $3,580.
BDCF creates endowed funds using donations from the community. Donations are put into a permanent endowment and only the annual income is used for the grant. The principal stays in the endowment forever.
