Good luck to all softball teams heading to their provincial championships this weekend. Squirts head to Warman, peewees to Birch Hills, bantams to Macklin and midgets to North Battleford. In addition, the Unity Midget Panthers played in their league final July 10.

Congratulations, Rhett Feser who was chosen to play on Team Sask. and will compete at the Canada Summer Games in Quebec.

Once again, the Top 20 or big prize eludes us with the TSN Bids. Our submission for the Kraft Celebration Tour was not successful in getting to the top placings that could earn votes toward a $25,000 prize sigh. Try, try again, I guess. The new swimming pool has had a slow start due to the excess rain; however the fundraising campaign continues to see success including a $50,000 donation from Altex Energy and a $50,000 donation from the local Lions Club.

The Unity Swimming Pool will host activities July 22- 26 to recognize Drowning Prevention Week. There will be a rescue demonstration and swim for life challenge, July 22 with a pool rules quiz Tuesday. On Wednesday, come watch the boat race from 5-6 p.m. and participate in a boat safety challenge. There will be another rescue demonstration and swim for life challenge, Thursday. Join the pool staff for a barbecue from 5 - 7 p.m. and a Rider deck dance from 8:30 - 10 p.m., Friday.

Proceeds from the barbecue go towards the new pool being constructed. Wear your Rider gear to the barbecue and dance Friday in an effort to win a grant from the Riders for the new swimming pool.

Unity Motor Products was proud to present the Unity Facilities Committee with a donation of $1,032 for the new pool. Donations were asked for the meal at their grand re-opening and UMP matched the donations received.

Representatives of Canadian Natural Resources, Wendell Jellison and Doug Rutley, were on hand at the Unity health care facility to present $5,000 to the Unity Health Care Auxiliary to be used to enhance health and patient care. The comment was made the health of a community is directly related to how we treat those people in need. It is because of business owners and local residents who donate monetarily to our health centre that the health care auxiliary is able to provide equipment and resources that are needed.

Katy, Shelby and Jordyn are keeping kids ages 5 - 11 busy this summer as program directors at Summer Fun Centre, which runs to Aug. 14.

Coffee row conversation was alive with excited review of the Riders' big win against the Stamps in their first home game of the CFL season. Of course, all the excitement of the weekend's provincial junior B ladies' fastball championship was reviewed. And talk of the weather and the mosquitos always has a place at the table. So you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week.
