What has become known as the Cowboy Christmas Parade is taking on a new identity. The participants and purpose remain the same, but a change in timing calls for a new name.

A letter to Battleford town council received Monday states the parade will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 and will henceforth be known as the Cowboy Harvest Parade for Kids.

In her letter, Shirley Smith, chair of the Battlefords Quarter Horse Club, the organizers of the parade, stated they are hoping for "nicer weather for our horses and riders."

The parade route will remain the same as last year, but it won't be Santa Claus in the starring role. It will be a mascot.

All the money raised by the parade, after expenses, is donated to the Empty Stocking Fund or the Battlefords Food Bank.
