Santa Claus Day will be on Dec. 12 in the Community Complex following the monthly noon luncheon hosted by the hall committee. Sorry about not knowing for sure last week. A social and Christmas program will follow lunch, so come out and support our hall and meet your neighbour and wish him a Merry Christmas once more.

Dave and Debbie Shepherd are back home after spending a two-week holiday in Yuma, Ariz. with his sister Elaine and Gary Poole. Weather was good, golfing was great and relaxing was the best part. Lots of interesting things to do down there and no winter coats.

Duplicate bridge was played at the Do Drop In on Dec. 1 with four tables in play. Top score was by Margaret Dyck and Dave Creegan. Second high were Mary Greenwald and Glen Fraser and third were Lucille and Bernard Gregoire. It was another good evening of playing cards.

The next wellness clinic will be held Dec. 17, between 8:40 and 10:40 a.m. The active walking and health program continues at the Community Complex Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with stretch exercises at 10 a.m.

聽The municipal Christmas party was held in the Meota Hotel on Dec. 3. This included the Resort Village of Metinota and RM of Meota No. 468. Larry Doke attended and there were about 40 people attending. These included the firemen and emergency measures officers. The room was tastefully decorated for the season, the meal was delicious and the staff excellent. There are no words to describe how perfect it all was. Words of greetings were spoken by Reeve Wilbert Fennig and Mayor John MacDonald. Glen Wouters said grace and Gil Cadrain spoke as fire chief.

The Battlefords Boy Scouts delivered their orders of goodies, taken last fall, to local residents last Friday, so their quality food is on hand. It was nice to see the Dyck boys back in Meota since their move to North Battleford last year.

Four tables of canasta were in play the evening of Dec. 11, with top marks by Shirley Tebay and Evelyn Dutton with a score of 47,145. They beat their opponents, Linda Ard and Marion Ottas, by only 40 points. In third place were Cora Christiansen and Paulette Neale. A tasty lunch ended the action for that day.

聽The Christmas concert pictures that I didn鈥檛 take, and were submitted, were taken by Sherry Doom. Thanks, Sherry.

聽I learned a new word 鈥 skijoring 鈥 this is riding skis being pulled along behind a horse. It did remind me of our efforts years ago when we would ride on homemade skis behind the sleigh on a trip to Prince, nearly four miles away. If I remember correctly, we likely called it 鈥渉itching a ride.鈥 I don鈥檛 think there are any dads out there today who would attempt to make skis or find a horse to pull you along. Of course right now the hardest item to find is the snow. The snowmobilers are getting anxious for it to start coming down.

By the time this paper is out the rafters will all be up on the condos. Dirt has been hauled in and packed in the driveways and approaches to them. Every day you see more progress and it is looking very fine.

Shirley and Lawrie Ward are home after spending a couple months in Kamloops where they were to support Lawrie鈥檚 brother and his family in a time of need. It鈥檚 always so good to get home from wherever one has been and you appreciate everything about home all over again.

A birthday party noon lunch was held in the Meota caf茅 Dec. 8 honoring Linda Ard. Seven of her friends gathered and enjoyed a nice lunch, sponsored by her sister. A pretty cake was also enjoyed.

Contract bridge was played Dec. 7 in the Do Drop In with high score by Jetta Dasilva and second high by Gerry Craig.
