Santa Claus Day was held in Radisson with Santa arriving by horse and wagon, driven by Stu Walton and his team of Belgians, Buck and Cindy.
Many bags of candy were handed out to the kids, compliments of the Radisson Fire Department. In the hall the Royal Purple held a tea and bake sale, serving 70 adults and close to 30 children strawberry shortcake. Three long tables of baking soon went and also hosting tables were Fern Stevens with quilts and handcrafted items and Sandra Flath with Avon products.
The door prizes from the OORP went to Audrey Duda of Borden and Jackie Porter of Radisson. Children's door prizes went to Jasmyn Harris, Austin Nelson, Yne-Klaas Elgersme, Kasidy Rempel, Joshua Upton and Aryanna Porter, all of Radisson.
The Royal Purple raffle went to Radisson residents: $75 grocery hamper to Ellen Cousins, ham to Myles Bennett, oranges to Amy Yuskiw and chocolates to Norm Hiebert. Other raffle prizes were won by Marge Thompson, Linda Hosegood and Jocelyn Amson.
On behalf of Radisson council and residents Mayor Walter Kyliuk presented a framed painting of Radisson train station and a steam engine by Richard Widdifield to Russ and Eileen Fountain, recognizing their 33 years of serving Radisson.
In the evening the swimming pool committee held a ham and turkey bingo with close to 50 out to try their luck with all prizes going to Radisson.
The Borden Friendship Club held their Christmas supper and program in their club room on Dec. 8 with 54 served a turkey supper with all the trimmings.
Ed Neufeld introduced the Sassy Sisters - Evelyn, Angie and Mary playing accordion, banjo and guitar - who opened the program singing and playing a number of old time favourites, a couple of Ukrainian songs and led sing- along tunes.
During their break, Rita Smith and Elizabeth Derksen performed a short skit. The seniors' choir sang and Ed Neufeld recited T`was the Night Before Christmas in Sweden with a Swedish accent.
The Sassy Sisters then entertained some more with waltzes and polkas that a few danced to and then sang three Christmas songs, closing with So Long, It's Been Good to Know You.
Radisson Lutheran Church held their Carols, Candles and Cookies on Dec. 12 with Pastor Wallace Bornhuse leading the service, Jackie Meister was organist, Twyla Stott pianist and Janelle Hamp flutist for the congregational carols. Borden St. John's Anglican Church choir and St. Paul Lutheran Sunday School class sang. David and Ida Petriew and Archie's Angels from the Borden Lions also contributed to the program. The First Lutheran Church choir from Langham sang two songs and Aaron Bornhuse played the clarinet and Graham Codling the saxophone for a medley. Cathy Flath and Susan Rothenburger sang.
The readings, candle lighting and congregational singing were interspersed with the musical items and after the service everyone enjoyed coffee, juice and cookies in the lower hall of the church. Food bank items were collected at the door.
Santa dropped in at the Borden Co-op hardware store Dec. 11 to hand out candy bags to the kids and there were door prizes with the adult prizes going to Wendy Gough and the children's to Jade Matte. Guessing the number of candy canes in the jar and getting them all was Teaira Murray.
The Borden Dance Club held their Christmas program in the Borden Community Centre. The program included ballet, jazz and hip hop numbers with a Christmas theme. Six tiny tots danced to Frosty the Snowman. After the recital everyone enjoyed some fantastic desserts with coffee or punch. A 50/50 draw of $176.50 went to Peggy Wainwright. Winning raffle prizes were Henry Prescesky of Maymont, Lorraine Olinyk and Corinne Szwydky. There were 54 items sold by silent auction. The dance club raised close to $2,500 on the evening, thanks to the support of everyone that attended and for the generous donations of items for the auction and raffles.
