Santa arrived in Radisson to visit with children

Santa arrived on Main St. in Radisson riding a snowmobile, for the annual Santa Claus Day Dec. 8. The Radisson volunteer firemen were busy handing out bags of candies to the many children who came to visit Santa.

Santa arrived on Main St. in Radisson riding a snowmobile, for the annual Santa Claus Day Dec. 8. The Radisson volunteer firemen were busy handing out bags of candies to the many children who came to visit Santa. In the hall, the ladies of the Royal Purple had a tea and bake sale and served strawberry shortcake with beverages to close to 70 adults and 25 or more children.

Door prizes went to adults Darlene Kindt, Eileen Fountain, Lucille Wilkie, Doris Lerch, Kenny Hawkins, Erin Bornhuse and Mary Werezak and to the kids Jade Baker, Abel Sylvester and Tayvin Werezak . The grocery hamper went to Jim Olinyk, ham to George Abbot, turkey to Ron Froom, oranges to Katelyn Neher (Yuskiw) of Langham and chocolates to Myrtle Amson.

In another raffle the Christmas LED Santas and chocolates went to Norma Amson, the pillowcases donated by Shirley Jacobsen to Harry Lerch and a basket full of Christmas goodies to Lucille Wilkie. There was a real good crowd out in the evening to play ham and turkey bingo put on by the playground committee.

Borden Friendship Club held their catered Christmas supper in their club room Dec. 5 with 59 members, guests and entertainers at the turkey supper, with all the trimmings and great desserts. Entertaining for the evening were Russ and Eileen Fountain singing and Russ on guitar and mandolin, Erwin Hamp on guitar, Cathy Flath singing and playing guitar and Jack Karpan playing banjo and steel guitar. They played many old-time favourite country and western and a number of Christmas songs.

President Eileen Petrun announced Delbert Enns was paying for 60 new chairs the club was purchasing. A motion was made for the club to buy 20 more to make a total of 80 new stacking chairs with padded seats, thanks to the generous donation from Delbert.

St. Paul Lutheran Church held their annual Carols, Candles and Cookies the evening of Dec. 9, with Pastor Wallace Bornhuse presiding and reading the scriptures. Gus Kindt lit the seven candles after each reading and carol singing.

Playing the piano and organ were Twyla Stott and Susan Rothenburger for the congregational singing of old familiar carols. Special music was provided by Jocelyn Bzdel playing the violin, Glenn and Joan Julseth of Borden played and sang, Russ Fountain with Erwin Hamp on guitar sang and the Sunday School class of St. Paul's depicted the Nativity Story, complete with narrators, shepherds, angel, sheep who tried to stray, Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus. The First Sask. Lutheran Church choir also sang.

After the singing of O Holy Night, the final reading and closing carol Joy to the World, everyone went to the lower hall for beverages and many delicious cookies and sweets.

Upcoming events in Borden are the combined churches' potluck supper and program Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the hall, the Borden School Christmas concert Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in the hall and the Grade 12 class have a pancake breakfast Dec. 21 in the hall from 7:15 - 10 a.m. Then the students will be on their break until resuming classes Jan. 3.

Borden United Church has service Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. then over to the hall, hosts a Blue Christmas service Dec. 21 at 7 p.m., and a regular service Dec. 23 at 11:30 a.m. with Christmas Eve service on the 24th at 7:30 p.m. The church is collecting for the Saskatoon Food Bank until Dec. 16, then donations will be taken in to the city. The United Church does not have any services again until Jan. 27 as one month's holiday begins after Christmas.
