Rural correspondent back in action after a fall

It is a few weeks since I last wrote a column for the Regional Optimist. An accidental fall in which I broke my right wrist as well as my right hip have been responsible.

In the meantime, spring has sprung and I have watched the daily changes as the countryside turned green.

Our best wishes for continued recovery to Bob Douglas, a former resident now living in Saskatoon, who underwent heart surgery in April. He is making a good recovery and is out walking on a regular basis. Members of his family, Robin, Rick, Dara and son and Randy, were home during the time of his operation.

Also best wishes to another former resident, Lyle Sutherland now of Chilliwack, B.C., who underwent successful heart surgery in April. He is making a good recovery. Best wishes, Lyle.

Congratulations to Morgan Thomarat whose graduation from Lakeland College, Vermilion, took place May 31. He graduated with a degree in environmental protection and monitoring.

Waseca village came through the spring flooding better than usual. Due to a great deal of work there were no flooded basements and the water flowed through quite well. However, village streets are soft with many holes and places that cannot be travelled.

Arlee Lumgair and her sister from North Battleford spent over a week in Victoria, B.C. at the end of April. Their nephew, who owns a tour bus, took them on some of his sightseeing trips.

With Maidstone graduation coming up this week, we send our congratulations especially to Anne Nerbas, Cassandra Bullock and MacKenzie Decker, Waseca students who are graduating this year.

April 21 was the annual community meeting in Waseca Hall. The evening began with a chicken supper. Reports were given by the various committees and the village. The main topic of discussion was the restructuring of the committees and the recreation board. This will require a further meeting. Holding a community day was also discussed.

Work is continuing on flowerbeds, green spaces and the walking trail in the village. Arrangements were made to have the grass mowed in the village and the Waseca Cemetery.

The Waseca Playground Committee has held some successful fundraisers. June 10, they plan to make a draw for fur gift certificates.
