At the next meeting, Feb. 4, the ladies will meet at the Radisson Seniors' Centre, as they will be judging the posters and essays done by Borden and Maymont schoolchildren. Because of the town changing their council meetings to first and third Mondays, our Lodge will meet at homes or rent elsewhere the first Monday of each month.

Borden Friendship Club held their first meeting of 2013, Jan. 9, setting dates for bingo, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m., and the Valentine's Tea for Telemiracle, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m., when the club will also have a 50/50 for Telemiracle and door prizes to hand out. Entertainment for the Jan. 30 potluck supper will be Petriew and Summers from Radisson providing music and for the Feb. 27 supper will be our local club members showing their talent with readings, jokes, singing or whatever.

Grades 7 and 8 from Borden School are holding a dessert theatre Feb. 14 in the Borden Community Centre at 7 p.m., presenting the play, The Food Drive. A silver collection will go to helping build a well in Africa and non-perishable food will be collected for a local food bank.

A fundraising supper and second annual Cowboy Poetry Night will be held in the Borden Community Centre, Feb. 23. The Lions are preparing the meal and the local 4-H Light Horse Club are cleaning up and holding a silent auction. More details of time and prices later.

Used stamps with clear postmarks of towns can be given to Lorraine Olinyk for the Canadian Bible Society. Metal can tabs for juvenile diabetes can be given to Carol Crabb.

The provincial firemen's playoffs are being hosted by Borden volunteer firemen. They will be curling in Radisson Curling Club Feb. 8 - 10, with the banquet in Borden. The entry deadline is Feb. 1, so once that has passed they will be able to post up times and teams for curling; hopefully some local curling fans will watch some of the games. They are also looking for volunteer drivers so if you wish to participate, contact Jamie Brandrick at 306-997-2222 after Jan. 18.

Congratulations to Kimbal and Jodine Siebert of Borden on the birth of Jesse Philip, born Dec. 28 and weighing nine pounds - a baby brother for Nicholas, Julia, Grace and Rachel.

Condolences to the family of Ann Dubkowski (née Hunchak) who passed away Jan. 7 at the age of 90. Ann lived at Borden since 1943, on the farm and in town, until declining health had her moving to Delisle in December of 2010 to be closer to her youngest son, Mark, and his family. The service was Jan. 14 in the Borden Community Centre, burial in Borden Cemetery and the lunch provided by the Borden United Church.
