Radisson Royal Purple Lodge held their monthly meeting Sept. 5 at the home of Roberta Harris. The ladies had sold ice cream sundaes at the Radisson Fair and did well. They also sponsored four classes in the displays. Over the summer the Sunshine Committee, Tina Hessell and Lorraine Olinyk,聽 sent out 13 cards 鈥 baby, get well and sympathy 鈥 to people in Borden and Radisson.
The money from the Sask. Elks Foundation for selling Charity Appeal tickets will be sent to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children.
Life membership pin and certificate were presented to Linda Yuskiw and perfect attendance pins were given to Audrey Baker and Linda Yuskiw - 17 years, Tina Hessell - 22 years, Roberta Harris - 28 years and Lorraine Olinyk - 40 years. Forty-year service bars are to be given to Roberta Harris, Linda Yuskiw, Lorraine Olinyk and Kay Shipowich.
聽The lodge will be hosting the Remembrance Day service Nov. 11 and set the date for their Christmas Tea, Bake Sale and Raffle for Saturday, Dec. 10. National president of the Canadian Roya Purple Society, Terri Paziuk of Cut Knife, has requested a visit to our lodge and she will be invited to a meeting or to the Christmas Tea.
The Borden and District Lions Club held their first meeting of the upcoming year Sept. 6, with Perry Nicol presiding as the new president. Secretary is Bob Wardhaugh and treasurer is Sandra Long. The various committees were formed for the upcoming year and the club needs to make plans for Lions Centennial Year in 2017.
Individual donations went to the dog guides program and a donation will be given to the Borden Care Home generator fund when needed. The Lions will sponsor a peace poster contest at the school with theme 鈥淎 Celebration of Peace鈥 for children aged 11, 12 or 13 (by Nov. 15). They will also host a Remembrance Day service in Borden Community Centre, 聽host the Festival of Music in December and sell 2017 CNIB calendars.
Four members will attend the 5SKN convention in Prince Albert Nov. 11 and 12. The members catered to the Bradshaw wedding Sept. 10 and are catering to a birthday party Oct. 15. The Lions鈥 fall turkey supper will be Saturday, Oct. 22 in the Borden Community Centre.
New members are always welcome to help the club serve the community.
The Borden Corner Caf茅 opened Sept. 1 under new managers 聽Melissa Braun of Borden and her mother Dianne Quintal from Saskatoon. They served close to 60 at their first Sunday brunch Sept. 11.
