Condolences to those in the Borden area related to Mabel Pederson (nee Griffin), who passed away March 30, just six weeks short of her 101st birthday. Mabel, who is my aunt, had lived at Sunnyside Nursing Home the last few years and was still in good health when she celebrated her 100th birthday May 9, 2012, but her health had declined quite a bit the last six months.

Everyone is finally feeling better with the arrival of spring. The snow is melting slowly at Borden and area, but some roads into farmyards are going to be pretty muddy in the next week or so. I'll be glad when enough is gone that I don't have to keep feeding horse pellets to a family of deer by my front door. Many around Borden and in the village have had them eating their shrubs and fir trees and are also feeding many deer. I know my fir and birch are missing a lot of needles and branches.

Borden School has come up with a new team name, going from Trailblazers to the Borden Bruins, and now they need input for a new logo to go on uniforms, be painted on the gym wall and used on business cards. Colours are black, white and royal or navy blue.

Borden School Community Council's annual meeting is April 22 at 6 p.m.
