Rosetown hosts Sask. Senior Games playdowns

Seniors will converge on Rosetown June 2 for the Rivers West District 55+ Senior Summer Games playdowns.

There will be competitions in bowling, Contract Bridge, Cribbage, golf, Kaiser, Scrabble, shuffleboard, slo-pitch, eight ball pool, swimming, tennis, track and field and whist. A literacy contest is also part of the event with poetry and short story submissions being accepted. Literary entries are to have a fitness, fun and friendship theme.

Registration and submission deadline is Friday, May 25. Edna Foster in Rosetown is accepting the registrations, and can be contacted at 306-882-3106. The registration fee of $10 includes a 2012 membership in the Sask. Seniors Fitness Association. Meals are available including a noon lunch for $6 and supper for $12.

Registration takes place from 8 to 9 a.m., with the games beginning at 9:30 a.m. Winners at the district level are eligible to proceed to the provincial games in Saskatoon July 3 to 5. Winners at provincials qualify for the national games to be held in Sydney, N.S. Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.

The Saskatchewan Senior Fitness Association is a volunteer non-profit, non-government organization whose mission is to improve the total well being of Saskatchewan seniors through participation in physical, cultural and intellectual activities.

All are encouraged and welcome to participate in this fun day, geared to promote fitness and well being.
