Summer is over and it is time to get back into routine. There is news to be reported and school buses to drive as well as other jobs that need to be done.

We will start with the winners of the July trip of the month daw. Congratulations to Kevin and Marina Foulds who won the trip and Don and Sheila Orchison who won the $100. Also congratulations to the August trip winners, Jodie Poole and Brandi Cole, and the $100 winners, Larry and Judy McDaid, all of Edam.

The CCA rodeo was in town for the sixth annual show Aug. 22 - 24, making it a busy time in Edam.

The evening of Aug. 22 found the locals trying their hand at riding the "bulls." There were 23 riders taking part; two were female and two others were only 10 years old. Kyle Graham, Derek Graham of North Battleford, Cody Hirshe of Mayfair, Talen Lakusta of Lloydminster, Logan Huard of North Battleford and Caleb Davidson of Maidstone were the only riders to make it to the short go. The Calcutta sale of the riders and the bulls brought in $3,200.

The results were Kyle Graham scoring a 92 in the short go with a combined score of 178, winning himself the belt buckle supplied by Painted River Ranch, Bruce and Laura Martin, and a win for his Calcutta buyer, Curtis Bonsan. Winning the 50/50 for the evening was Brian Weber of Vawn.

During the intermission, there were 14 youngsters from the ages of four to six taking part in the mutton busting. Rene and Karen Cadrain once again supplied the sheep for this event.

The intermission entertainment during the rodeo Aug. 23 and 24 showcased the greased pig contest. Catching the pigs were Tyne Cole and Hunter Goodall. Congratulations, boys.

Announcer for the amateur night was Boyd Stuart with bull fighter Craig Stevens and professional rodeo clown Dennis Halstead.

The school year started Sept. 3 with a general assembly to welcome the students and staff back for the 2013-2014 year. New students were introduced and a quiz game was played with four staff contestants.

The good sports were Mrs. Trina Deobald (Mrs. D), Mr. Mike Lee, Mrs. Chrissy Weber (formerly Ms. Roset) and Ms. Cherelle Cadrain. Each was asked to wear an item that showed their "position" on the staff. Mrs. D was given a dinosaur hat as she has been at HHS the longest. Mr. Lee was given lederhosen as he is the leader. Mrs. Weber wore a tiara, headdress and a bouquet due to her change from Ms. to Mrs. over the summer. Ms. Cadrain was given a blankie and a soother as she is the youngest staff member.

In order to tell who "buzzed" in to answer their question, Mrs. D had to give her best T-Rex impression, Mr. Lee had to yodel, Mrs. Weber had to yell "I do, I do" and Ms. Cadrain had to cry like a baby. The victor was Mrs. Deobald.

The new students welcomed this year are Brady Carr and Jaxton Sayers in Grade 1, Randi Carr and Lynden Martin in Grade 3, Dion Johanson in Grade 7, Taylo Kambeitz in Grade 8, Matthew Ernst and Karly Kohut in Grade 10 and Jade Grant in Grade 11. Also joining Mrs. Harty in kindergarten are 14 new faces: Leah Frey, Ashton Harty, Bram Jullion, Karis Latendresse, Rayden Martin, Addison Poole, Hailey Roblin, Beckett Rogers, Abigail Sehn, Presley Sharp, Amy Stuart, Kesler Wall, Kiana Weber and Kobi Weber.

Welcome to all the new students and hope you have a good year.
