TISDALE — This year’s Rockin’ the Square street fair is expected to be the largest yet, with a bouncy obstacle course for teenagers and adults, as well as a reptile exhibit.

The street fair will have three bouncy inflatable activities. One will be for young children, one will be for older children and one will be an obstacle course for teenagers and adults.

“It’s quite big, so that will be good. You can have races on it, so that should be fun,” said Niki Harpham, board member of the Rockin’ the Square committee.

“There are two sides to it, and so people start at the same time and you have to go through it. It takes up about three quarters of the street from what I understand. It’s big.”

This isn’t the first year the street fair has had a bouncy castle, but it is the first they have had bouncy activities available for different ages.

“We just thought this would be more options for the older kids and adults as well too.”

The reptile exhibit will be situated at the Falkon Theatre. Animals inside will include a tortious, tarantula, snakes and lizards.

“The biggest street fair yet, and we’ll have some of the stuff we had last year,” Harpham said. “The sand pile will be there for the kids to play on. There are some street vendors coming in as well. Some of the vendors will charge for their stuff like face painting and balloon animals and that kind of stuff. There is a food truck as well.”

The street fair runs 9 am to 4 pm and the reptile exhibit is 11 am to 4 pm on July 5.

At 5 pm doors will open for the concert, which will be featuring Lee Aaron and Platinum Blonde.

The Tycke Brothers will start off when the doors open, followed by Llewelyn Moss. These are both two local bands from the region.

While the concert used to have local bands start, this hasn’t happened for several years.

“We used to that a long time ago, but we’re doing that back again to support our local area talent.

After the headliners end, Llewelyn Moss will play again to keep people around for an after party.

Harpham hopes the fair brings people to downtown businesses.

Each year the Rockin’ the Square committee saves $50,000 for next year’s Rockin’ the Square, and donates the rest to causes in the community.

This year, the committee donated $10,000 raised from previous concerts to the Tisdale Minor Ball Association on June 21.

In the past, funds from the event went to the Rae’s Action Sports Park, the town mural and new signs coming into Tisdale that are in the process of being made.
