When have our highways evolved to the point we can drive at any speed we choose? Seems like it's happening. I drive the highway at least five days a week and no one seems to know how to drive to road conditions.
Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, as I was waiting at a stop sign there was a rollover and the RCMP were there, did anyone slow down? No. Oops, one person did put on his brakes but with three vehicles coming behind him and not slowing down he continued to travel with the rest of them.
Going home that evening I saw that four more vehicles had hit the ditch just before Maymont, one just after Maymont on the hill (if that's what you wish to call it).
Winter driving can be hazardous. Factors such as rain, snow, ice, sleet, fog and limited daylight hours present real challenges to motorists, whether they drive for work or leisure. In fact, when it comes to winter, the number of casualty crashes in which someone is killed or injured due to driving too fast for road conditions almost doubles from 149 in October to 289 in December.
We had friends who were in the big Maymont accident Nov. 30 and they said just the screeching and the sounds of the vehicles driving into one another were unreal. Please slow down and drive safely so everyone gets to where they are going for the holidays.
Maymont School Christmas concert was held Dec. 17. It was an excellent job done by all, teachers included. A Grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 choir sang All on a Silent Night and Blizzard on the Way. They were accompanied by Mrs. Stott, directed by Mrs. Brehon and assisted by Ms. Gillatt. The theme was Is Santa Smarter? Santa came and the kids received treat bags. Without all the help this night wouldn't have been the success it was, Thanks again for the entertainment.
Remember everyone is welcome New Year's Eve at the seniors' center. Please join us for potluck lunch, entertainment, fun and games. Doors open at 8 p.m.

If I could have a Christmas wish come true, I would wish for wonderful things to come to you. I wish you happiness in everything you do. I hope not many worries or problems will come to you. I wish you hope that can brighten the cloudiest day, and strength to accept all that life sends your way. May you rise each day with sunlight in your heart, and may all your hopes and dreams never fall apart.
With my warmest thoughts and memories of you, I wish that all your joys and wishes come true. When these special wishes are delivered to your door, there's no doubt they will be accompanied by many more. Of all the Christmas wishes delivered to you yearly, there couldn't be another that's wished more warmly or sincerely.
