Oct. 26 is tentatively set as a date for a potential Repair Café event in North Battleford.
Repair Café is an effort by the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council to help fix items at certain locations in the province, said Director of Operations Stewart Schafer Monday during a city council meeting. These events have been taking place at a number of cities in the province already. The waste reduction council has approached North Battleford to see if they could do one in the local area.
The plan is to round up volunteers who can repair broken or non-functional items and then give them back to owners free of charge. Schafer said the items could include lights and cell phones.
These “Repair Cafes” were described in a memo from administration as “a proven model for waste reduction and community building.” The hope from city administration is that the event will go ahead in the city Oct. 26 during Waste Reduction Week in Canada.
