Remembrance Day contest winners

The winners of the Marsden and Neilburg Remembrance Day poster, poetry and essay competitions were announced Nov. 11 at the ceremonies held in the Neilburg Community Hall. Certificates were handed out to the creative artists who were in attendance.

The primary colour poster winners were both from Marsden Jubilee School with Emma Benoit taking first prize and Ashtyn LaClare receiving second place. In the black and white poster section, only one award was presented. It went to Logan Blackbeard, also of Marsden. The poetry side was swept by students in Grades 1 to 3 at Neilburg Composite School. William Downie won first while Anna Giesbrecht placed second and Kaylyn Koch was third.

In the junior division, three Marsden students were awarded the prizes in the colour poster contest. Hunter LeDrew was first, Mehaliah Foulkes was second and Ashlyn Loy was third. The black and white poster prizes went to Mackenzie Houk for first, Brayden Koch for second and Dominic Madlang-Awa for third. Henry Peters was the top prize winner in poetry for this age group. William Sorenson was second in the poetry division with Hannah O'Grady placing third. In the essay writing competition, Ashton Schmidt was first, Tidja Hoeppner-Basha was second and Henry Peters was third.

Ethan Moir was the top winner in the intermediate category - Grades 7 through 9 - in the colour poster section. Bryce Conlan was second and Josh Blackman was third. The black and white poster created by Kailee McGarry placed first. Paige Watson was second and Taryn Black was third. Breanna Conlan was the top in the poetry contest, with Gracie McCord second and a tie for third. The tie was between Taryn Black and Kailee McGarry. Mariah Nattress had the winning essay in this section. Shaelyn Putnam placed second in the essay section with Courtney Cammidge third.

The colour poster winner in the senior section was Chad Graham. Ashlee Goodfellow placed second and Mikayla Watson was third. In the black and white section, only two prizes were awarded. Laura Hegel won first and Shayla Koedyk was second. In the essay section, two prizes were also awarded. First went to McKayla Lillico and second was awarded to Shannon Putnam.

Congratulations to all the winners. Many of the winning items will go on to compete at higher levels in this annual Legion competition.
