Donation cheques were written out to Cran Creek Senior Quilters, Sonningdale Senior Quilters, Diamond Lodge of Biggar, Ranger Lake Bible Camp, Maymont Dance Club, Ladies in Motion group and the Monarch 4-H Multiple Club. All these clubs and groups have residents and taxpayers of the RM of Glenside attending and taking part.

A utility bag sewing project was postponed from Nov. 12 to March 9, 2013, to be held at the Baljennie Community Centre. Joan Rayner and Irene Greer are in charge and are the contact people.

There was a Christmas craft class for the younger children at the home of Joan Rayner Nov. 12. Due to the much cooler weather and deep snowfall, it was held at the Rayner farm home instead of at Baljennie Community Centre. The group made small ornaments to hang on their Christmas trees.

Andrea Owen will run a birdhouse project, at Spinney Hill Community Centre April 1, 2013. The birdhouses will be made and decorated from old story books. Contact Andrea if you are interested.

Anyone within the RM -- let us know some of your ideas on what classes, crafts or other types of sewing projects you would like to see done. We are open for ideas.

The next meeting will be held Jan., 7, 2013 at the home of Andrea Owen in Spinney Hill.

Just as the snow first fell, the RM of Glenside pest control officer was out and about, leaving rodent poison bait where needed.

Stanley Mills was a lucky winner of the money third draw on the monthly lottery at the Battlefords Union Hospital Oct. 31.

After two big, deep, wet snowfalls, and now the colder temperatures, it looks like we are into an early, long winter season even though the first day of winter is a full month away. It certainly has kept the RM road patrols very busy trying to keep the main roads open for the school buses, the mailman and those who have jobs in the city.

The early snow caught the cattlemen with their livestock still out in the summer pastures and fields. Sudden changes had to be made to get them all home to the barnyard corrals.

Lizard Lake Community Pasture got caught with many head of cattle still in different parts of the pasture. They needed the help of the RM road patrols to come and push deep snow out of the pasture entrances and around the corrals. The cattle have been rounded up and taken to their winter corrals and some to market.

This winter came so early, it caught a bit of the people just not ready for it to happen. The ski hills and snowmobilers will be happy as now they have some snow and can be active again. Keep in mind to stay clear of the ice on the river, dugouts and deep sloughs. The ice is still there under heavy, deep snow. It will take much more colder weather to make the ice safe to travel on. Don't take the chance; just stay clear for a while. It's not worth the risk.

Whitetail deer hunting season is now open in our area until early December. There has been a lot of whitetail deer about this fall. With a good blanket of snow on the ground, it will make good hunting for the hunters. Most back roads and fields are still open to drive on. There is some posted land in the area, so hunters have to get permission to hunt. Take care, be careful and happy hunting to you all.
