Will Cst. Jacqueline Spence be missed? Yes she will. A surprise potluck supper was held for Spence June 8 at the Radisson Community Hall. Close to 80 people were there to say goodbye. She was greeted with She's A Golly Good Fellow and lots of tears. Nancy Beaudion arranged this event. Pastor Wallace Bornhuse said grace and a feast of food was had by all.
Spences's dad, Alfred Spence, who was also a police officer, told us Spence loves people and animals and is dedicated to her job as an RCMP officer. Spence worked on the DARE program with Grade 5 and 6 students and also conducted identification clinics for Child Find Saskatchewan.
Spence has always had a passion for children and this is one of the driving factors behind her strong engagement in the Child Find program. Spence says every child should be afforded the opportunity to grow up in a positive and supportive environment. This belief is a strong motivating factor in her becoming an RCMP Officer.
Spence takes the time to educate teachers, parents and children on best practices surrounding child safety. "Protecting our children is the responsibility of the whole community," she says. With that in mind Spence allocates time to building relationships with key community partners and providing them with education and guidance with respect to the protection of children.
Congratulations to Terry Skopyk who ran, biked and swam in a triathlon June 5 in Saskatoon and who came in first in the over 60 category.
Maymont Hotel is hosting steak night June 24. Advance tickets are $20 and all proceeds will go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
There is garage sale at Maymont Hall June 25. Tables are rental $15. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be sold. There will also be a pot luck and jam session starting at 6 a.m. Anyone having donation can call Jay at 389-4847 or Mel at 389-2440.
