Rabbit Lake finally has gas

It has been a long journey, but yes, we can finally say, "Rabbit Lake has gas"! Now in most cases this is not something to brag about but we don't mind sharing the news.

It has been a long journey, but yes, we can finally say, "Rabbit Lake has gas"! Now in most cases this is not something to brag about but we don't mind sharing the news. Self-serve gas is available from the pump located next to the hotel and is operating as a cash only venture. Not to worry-if you don't have cash, Joan has an ATM at the hotel. Not only will the local citizens enjoy the availability of gas, so will the recreationalists in both the summer and winter!

Get well wishes go out to Cecilia Krahn who is recovering from an accident that resulted in a broken hip. We hope to see her home and on the mend as soon as possible.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the incorporation of the Rabbit Lake and District Museum. To mark the occasion an interfaith service was held in the former Roman Catholic church, with Chad Doell speaking.

Many special numbers were enjoyed. A quartet comprised of Cornie and Marlene Martens, Betty Epp and Herman Klassen, a flute and piano duet by Marlene and Laurie Martens, a vocal feature by Janelle Martens, and a violin solo by Mykayla Martens were appreciated by all. As it was Pentecost Sunday a feature by Cornie Martens, Betty Epp, Chad Doell, Henry Konopelski, Norma Sherman and Alan Laughlin, each reading John 3:16 in various languages augmented Chad Doell's message.

About 60 people attended, resulting in the need to bring in extra chairs. After the service the museum committee hosted a barbecue at the Rabbit Lake Seniors' Centre where an anniversary cake was shared. Alvin Wiebe was the winner of the door prize. The museum was open to visitors after the lunch.

There will be a steak and lobster supper June 15 in the Rabbit Lake Seniors' Centre. Check the posters around the community for more details.

Members of the museum committee are: Gordon Sherman, chairperson; Isabelle McLennan, vice-chair; Ruth Hrynewich, secretary/treasurer; and directors, David Plummer, Lorraine Scott, Cindy Miller, Norma Sherman, Don Peters, Linda Lewis, Cornie Martens, Shirley McKenzie and Alan Laughlin. If people are interested in viewing the museum they can contact any committee member or make arrangements at the WhistleStop to get a key.

Meeting Lake Regional Park Authority hosted a social at the Round Hall Saturday evening. Several cabin owners and seasonal campers enjoyed the evening however most of the local people are still involved in seeding. Trevor Pauls provided the music.

Next weekend the Zone 1 Square Dancers will be holding their annual dance and camp-out at Meeting Lake. Unity Club is in charge of the event this year. Guests who would like to watch the dancing are always welcome.

The village held its annual cleanup day May 19 with a chili lunch provided at the seniors' hall. Every year a small group of individuals take on a project or two and their efforts do make the village look much better. Thanks to those who helped out.

Basically we are only a month from the annual Carlton Trail Jamboree. Headliners Charlie Major and Doctor Hook, featuring Ray Sawyer, are sure to provide excellent entertainment. Mistakenly some advertising has the dates of the Jamboree as other than July 6, 7 and 8. Also the cost of the jamboree is incorrect in some tourist advertisements. Check the jamboree posters for the correct information.
