Rabbit Lake and District Museum attend regional museum assoc. meeting

Well so far Rabbit Lake is staying high and dry. Sump pumps are working but seem to be keeping up pretty well. We certainly think of our neighbours at Maymont, Radisson and Borden.

Water has been causing trouble for residents of Rabbit Lake and district, as spring runoff has flooded roads and yards.

Well so far Rabbit Lake is staying high and dry. Sump pumps are working but seem to be keeping up pretty well. We certainly think of our neighbours at Maymont, Radisson and Borden. So far there is no water running over any roads in the immediate vicinity but there are a few places on highway 378 that could become threatening if the weather heats up. There has been water over the road between Rabbit Lake and Spiritwood.

The Northwest Museum Association held their spring meeting May 4. This meeting was hosted by the Meadow Lake and District Museum and Historical Society. There was a report featuring a book entitled Saskatchewan Women of Influence, a staff presentation by May-Lin Polk and a discussion of newspaper clippings and how to preserve them.

Attending this meeting were Gordon and Norma Sherman, Isabelle McLennan and Ruth Hrynewich representing the Rabbit Lake and District Museum. The NWMA fall meeting will be hosted by Lashburn Centennial Museum Oct. 19.

Congratulations go out to Elliott Robert Hildebrand of Saskatoon, formerly of Rabbit Lake, the son of Marlene and the late John Hildebrand of Rabbit Lake, and to Nancy Lynette Schroeder, of Saskatoon and formerly of Main Centre, on their recent engagement.

Congratulations also go out to Ryan Spielmann of Lloydminster, son of Claus and Cyndy Spielmann of Rabbit Lake, and Cassie Andres, daughter of Marcel and Anita Andres, on their recent engagement. Cassie is originally from Lancer.

Get well wishes go out to Bernie Schliemann who is a patient in St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. There seems to be a cold and flu going around the community. Just what we need at this time of year!

We send our thoughts to Dave and Marlene Martens and family on the passing of Marlene's mother, Jean Rens of Saskatoon.

Last week I was highlighting the work and volunteerism of several people of the community. Somehow I failed to mention the work and donation of equipment provided by Danny Wright, from The Wright Choice Seed Cleaning Plant here in Rabbit Lake. Sorry, Danny, it was my oversight!

The next call for volunteers will be to work at the three local cemeteries. Nancy Penley organizes the cleanup groups for the Rabbit Lake cemetery, Angel Haryung for the Pleasantsite cemetery and George Hildebrand for the Hoffnungsfelder Mennonite cemetery. No one is ever turned down so, if you want some exercise and fellowship, check in with any of these people.

The Rabbit Lake branch of the Lakeland Library is once again fundraising for upcoming programming. There is a large recycling can in front of the library and librarian Melita Hildebrand would be very happy if people would drop in cans and bottles as a donation. This fundraiser goes from May 13 until May 31.

The Rabbit Lake Senior Sunrise Circle will be holding their monthly potluck supper May 15. After the supper Isabelle McLennan will be leading a discussion about the annual Relay for Life. The Rabbit Lake group has participated in the North Battleford relay for many years so I am sure Isabelle will have some interesting points to make.

Welcome to Eveline Benoit who is a new resident at Rose Gill Lodge. We hope you come to enjoy living in our village.

Last Sunday Mayfair library and art club hosted an art show and sale. There are a number of talented artists in the community and it was good to have a chance to see what work they had done. The hall was completely full and everyone was enjoying the lunch of scones and jelly, fruit, cheese and beverages. A nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Mayfair Creative Corner is once again sponsoring the 12th annual breakfast and spring sale May 25 at the Mayfair Hall. The breakfast starts at 9:30 a.m. and goes until noon. The sale of bedding plants and miscellaneous stuff goes from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Some people may be in the field but I am sure there will be lots of people to visit with and a chance to get some good deals at the same time.

Has Meeting Lake come up? Well there is a torrent of water running into the lake at the east end through the old Meeting Lake corner bridge. Residents at Shady Bay say the boat launch is under water and they estimate that the water is about 25 feet higher on the beach. Remember 1985 when some people chose to move their cabins back rather than fight with the forces of nature?

It is good to see old friends coming back to open the cottages and get ready for another season at the lake.
