The final business meeting of the year for the Rivers' Edge Quilt Guild was held May 2 in the Don Ross craft room with 20 members attending.

Quilters are forever busy and the meeting was an engaging and lively event. Even though the season is late, preparations are being formalized for a "day and night" quilt workshop with instruction by Carol Wasylik of Vermilion, Alta. and a retreat at Unity at Ilene's Quilt Shop.

A presentation was made to Leah Garvin, curator of galleries for the City of North Battleford, to show the guild's appreciation for the invaluable work done by the gallerys and staff in the presentation of our quilts during the November/December 2013 quilt display.

Members and participation in guild activities enhances quilting techniques, boosts self confidence, and perhaps most important of all, provides fellowship. So, it is with sadness we say farewell to Louise Nykiforuk, who is moving and will begin another journey of her life. We wish her well.

It is said, "Quilters affect eternity, they can never tell where their influence stops." This is true of Louise, a founding member of the guild started in 2000, who in serving as instructor, advisor and mentor par excellence is responsible for hundreds of quilts being made. Tea and cake were served after the meeting in her honour.

At the show and tell part of the afternoon event members had an opportunity to display their work, a variety of projects from recent workshops including full- and crib-sized quilts, as well as well as hangings and fabric crafted items. Those present could not help but be inspired by the colours and techniques and plans are surely in place for future projects.

No business meetings will take place during June, July and August, but many eager members will continue to use the craft room on Thursdays and Fridays over the summer season for their own quilting. Business meetings will commence again in September. If you are interested in joining the guild or need more information please call Carol at 306-445-4352 or Barb at 306-445-0486.
