Promising musicians recommended to provincial level

Sixteen local musicians and one choir have been recommended to move on to provincial competition following the Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival.

Sixteen local musicians and one choir have been recommended to move on to provincial competition following the Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival.

At the festival's awards gala March 22, host Kathy Richardson said the adjudicators were impressed with the high calibre of talent in the Battlefords.

In the Speech Arts category, Adam Swanson has been recommended to the 2013 Provincial Music Festival for Senior Speech Arts.

From among the vocal categories, adjudicators have recommended Spencer McKnight for Operatic Solo, Any Male Voice, Senior Open; Concert Group Grade A, Senior Open; Tenor Solo, Grade A; Oratorio/Sacred Aria, Any Male Voice, Senior.

The Kamala Youth Choir has also been recommended to provincials. They earned the award of Outstanding Vocal Entry in the festival.

Sophie Pitman has been recommended for Senior Musical Theatre Ballad Female.

Johanna York has been recommended for Intermediate Musical Theatre Ballad Female.

Amanda Thompson has been recommended for Intermediate Music Theatre Up-Temp Female.

Bethany McQuaid, Larissa Chipak and Morgan Esquirol have been recommended for Girls Chorus, 19 and under, Any Number of Voices.

Katrina MacKinnon has been recommended for Girl's Solo, High Voice, 16 years and under.

Jean van der Merwe for Concert Group, Grade B; Men's Solo, Men's Changed Voice, 18 and under; Vocal Solo, Canadian, Any Voice, Senior, Open; Senior Musical Theatre, Up-Tempo, Male.

As a duo, Katrina MacKinnon and Jean van der Merwe have been recommended for Lieder, Any Voice and Piano Ensemble, Senior.

Katrina MacKinnon has also been recommended to provincials in the Piano category, for Intermediate Bach; Intermediate Beethoven; and Senior French Music - Intermediate 20th Century/Canadian.

Also in the Piano category, Amy Klippenstein has been recommended for Senior Bach; Senior Beethoven; and Senior Chopin.

Cole Knutson has been recommended for Intermediate Recital.

Mary McLane has been recommended for Intermediate Haydn and Mozart; and Intermediate Chopin.

In the Band category, Emily Jackson has been recommended for Intermediate Percussion.

Cole Knutson has been recommended for Intermediate Woodwind.

Alicia Hydukewich has been recommended for Intermediate Brass.

James Chipak has been recommended for Intermediate Brass.

Bethany McQuaid has been recommended for Senior Brass.

Choral Speech Arts entrants winning awards and/or scholarships at the local level include the Bready School Kindergarten (T-Th) and Battleford Central School Grade 4S.

Individual Speech Arts entrants winning awards and/or scholarships at the local level include Katrina Turnbull, James Chipak, Kathleen Abrahamson, Adam Swanson, Carmella Gattinger, Adam Revet, Kathleen Foreman, Alisdair Ramsay-Mackenzie, Domnique Esquirol, Ericka Revet and Khrystia Mackinnon.

In the Vocal Choirs/Ensembles, entrants winning awards and/or scholarships at the local level include: the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Choir under the direction of Amy Francais and Adam Streisel; the Ratushniak Elementary School Choir under the direction of Carmen Sperling; the Esquirol Family; Kamala Youth Choir (2); Gallery Singers; Katrina MacKinnon and Kayla Schmidt; Bethany McQuaid (2), Larissa Chipak (2) and Morgan Esquirol; Dance Connection.

Junior Vocal entrants winning awards and/or scholarships at the local level include Kathleen Abrahamson (2), Jordyn Nachtegaele (2), Abbey Neufeld, Catherin Regush, Isabella Johnson (2), and Skylar York.

Intermediate/Senior Vocal entrants winning awards and/or scholarships at the local level include Katrina MacKinnon (2), Amanda Thompson, Ainslie Mliley, Johanna York (3), Sophie Pitman (2), Kayla Schmidt, Noah Esquirol, Alicia Hydukewich, Nicole Klippenstein, Morgan Esquirol, the trio of Jordyn Nachtegaele, Courtney Wounters and Chloe Winterhalt, Sarah Knutson, Jean van der Merwe (3), Annika Lessing (2), James Chipak, Mayce Achtemichuk and Kamala Youth Choir.

Band entrants winning awards and/or scholarships at the local level include James Chipak, Andrew Pyle, Emily Jackson, Alicia Hydukewich, Jeanny Jung, Noah Esquirol, Michelle Schmidiger, Bethany McQuaid, Cole Knutson, the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Grade 9 Band under the direction of Amy Francis (2), St. Vital Recorder Choir under the direction of Eric Cawood, and the ensemble of Noah Esquirol, Keaton Heck, Skyler York, Jeanny Jung, Katie Dyck and Catherine Regush.

Strings category entrants winning awards and/or scholarships at the local level include Keegan Isaac, Jennifer Tran, Teagen Isaac, Victoria Mahmood, Rebecca Boser, Jeanny Jung (2), Quattro Corde, Dmitri Masich, J.C. Blais, Ben Kmeich, International String Band and Zaide Masich.

Junior Piano category entrants winning awards and/or scholarships at the local level include Jenna Humenny, Christina Zhang, Matthew Spanier, Ruby Yu, Emilia Bacchetto, Dante Bacchetto (2), Ava Bahrey, Jenna Prollius (2), Thane Ulven, Minju Kim, Khrystia MacKinnon and Emily Jung.

Intermediate/Senior Piano entrants winning awards and/or scholarships at the local level include Cailyn Driedger, Larissa Chipak, Katrina MacKinnon (3), Emilia Bacchetto, Ainslie Milley, Emily Paulhus, Elianna Pyle, Nicole Klippenstein, Alica Hydukewich, Johanna York, Braden Driedger, Kayla Schmidt, Zavienne Kowalczyk (2), Zamen Kowalczyk, Khrystia MacKinnon (3), Josh Abrahamson, Mary McLane, Amy Klippenstein and Cole Knutson (2).
