The readers talked of the two emblems of Egypt - the ankh or key of life and the white lotus flower symbolizing purity, as well as of the River Nile along which most of the population is centred. It is the second longest river in the world, flowing through the largest desert in the world, the Sahara.

Four women told the story, with two from the past and two of the modern age, telling of what happened before and of the churches today and the people's right to freedom, justice and equality. They told the story of the Samaritan woman at the well with Jesus.

Guest speaker was Sister Peter Mary of Borden, who spoke of problems in Egypt over the years, the need for peace in many parts of the world, asking everyone to pray for peace, and saying, with God's help, our prayers will be answered.

Following the service the ladies served a light lunch in the lower hall.
