A concert with Dan Bersey of Newfoundland - entertainer, comedian, Christian speaker - along with Quinn and Bruin Eberle of North Battleford, a fiddle and guitar playing brother/sister duo, is today, April 11, at the Borden Community Centre. There is a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. with the concert to follow and there is no admission charge. Deb McNab of North Battleford, who is with Compassion Canada, will be on hand to say a few words and everyone is welcome.

Borden Lions president John Buswell presented the Lions scholarship of $500 to Raquel Nickel of Borden, April 1. Raquel is the daughter of Gary and Shari Nickel. The recipient has to be in post-secondary education, have attended Borden or Langham schools or been homeschooled in the area. There were five applicants who answered the questionnaire.

Raquel is just finishing her second year of the nursing program at the University of Lethbridge, Alta. She took one year at King's College in Edmonton, enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program, before transferring into the nursing program. Raquel graduated from Borden High School in 2010 and has two more years to complete her nursing degree.

At Borden Friendship Club's potluck supper March 27, over 30 were on hand to enjoy a great meal and to welcome two new members - Ed and Dianne Rawlyk. The cakes were brought by Eileen Petrun and Doreen Flath and blowing out the candles were Art and Doreen Flath and Terry Petriew. Following the supper, everyone enjoyed watching a video on the Grand Old Opry with entertainers and comedians.

The club is having someone come out from Saskatoon Health Region, April 16, at 1:30 p.m. in the club room to give a talk on Staying on Your Feet, a falls prevention balance and education program. Their slogan is Be Aware - Be Safe - Be Active. Everyone over 50 is welcome, not just senior members.

Three members - Roberta Harris, Tina Hessell and Lorraine Olinyk - of the Radisson Royal Purple travelled to Allan, April 6, to enjoy lunch and hold the District 9 annual meeting with ladies from Asquith, Allan and Saskatoon lodges. Only 14 ladies were able to attend the meeting with Allan Lodge hosting. A motion was passed to not hold district meetings in the future. The funds left in the account were donated to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children. Saskatoon Lodge will host Friendship Night June 25 with a potluck supper before the evening entertainment. Door prize was won by Delores Whitson and raffle prizes were won by Arlene Cattel, Clara Garman and Delores.

Affinity Credit Union's annual meeting, held at Langham Affinity Hall, was preceded by a lasagna supper served by Knox United Church. The meeting was telecast from Saskatoon to seven locations in the province and featured informative talks from board president Scott Flavel and CEO Mark Lane and a financial report from Lisa de Moissac. Master of ceremonies Mitchell Anderson handled the voting.

Affinity's loans are at $2.02 billion with deposits at $2.2 billion. Return of equity was 11.12 per cent, capital surplus 45.7 per cent and return on assets .94 per cent. Affinity invested $1.5 million in community development in 2012.

Richard Mireau was thanked for his many years on the Langham board/council. Scrutineers at Langham for the voting were Richard Mireau, Lucy Izsac and Lorraine Olinyk.

The total attendance from the seven points was 635 members and 34 visitors, with the results from voting on the bylaw changes at 561 for and 6 against the changes. The vote was similar at all points with 97 per cent in favour of partnering with Spectra and Advantage.

With the merger, if Spectra and Advantage members also vote in favour, the name will remain Affinity, Mark Lane will be the CEO, no jobs will be lost, it will have $4.5 billion in assets, 140,000 members from 76 branches in 68 communities across Sask. and convenient access to services by phone, Internet and mobile devices and the start-up date will be July 1. At Borden and Langham one director on district council will be cut at each point.
