The Battlefords have the distinct honour of unveiling the Saskatchewan Arts Board's 65th anniversary touring exhibition entitled Creative Play. It will be on display at the Chapel Gallery Feb. 6 to March 7. It will then tour around the province as part of the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils Arts on the Move program.

Creative Play is curated by Jennifer McRorie and features new acquisitions from the Saskatchewan Arts Board permanent collection. The exhibition explores the concept of play as a process of individual, collective and artistic discovery. Discovery, though play as a child, informs how we identify with the world around us and allows us to imagine other possibilities. Play can also be an inherent part of an artist's creative process, allowing for intuition to inform artistic work through experimentation with new ideas and approaches.

In Saskatchewan, we can feel proud of our long history of support for the arts. The Saskatchewan Arts Board was established in 1948 and was the first agency of its kind in North America and second in the world to the British Arts Council. The Saskatchewan Arts Board continues to build on this strong tradition by representing the contemporary art practices of artists within the province for the purpose of public access. This leadership ensures that the arts thrive for the benefit of everyone in Saskatchewan.

Join us at The Chapel Gallery for an opportunity to celebrate the arts together with representatives from The Saskatchewan Arts Board. The opening reception of Creative Play will be held on Monday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. Belinda Harrow, The Saskatchewan Arts Board outreach co-ordinator, will be conducting an exhibition tour. It will be a lovely evening of conversation, art and refreshments and is a great opportunity to show how much the Battlefords support the arts in our province. Everyone is welcome. Admission is free; donations are appreciated and help to support exhibitions and programs, keeping the arts vibrant in the city.

The Chapel Gallery is located in the Don Ross Centre at 891 - 99th St. The Allen Sapp Gallery is located at 1 - Railway Ave. Both are open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday.

Support is provided by the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the City of North Battleford, Saskatchewan Lotteries and RBC Wealth Management Dominion Securities - Rongve, Gabruch, Schell and Weikle Wealth Management.
