Is it just me or are the evenings beginning to get shorter? I really don't like the prospects of impending fall but when the Brown Eyed Susans, the Indian Paintbrush and the Goldenrod start flaming their colours we know we are moving in that direction.

At the end of June, Deanna Roberts and her girls Desaray and Devanna moved form Rabbit Lake to Sundre, Alta. where Deanna's parents had relocated to earlier in the spring. We wish them well in their new surroundings and wish the girls good luck in a new school.

Vic Ricketts, long time resident of the Village of Rabbit Lake, passed away June 29. Funeral services were held at the Rabbit Lake Community Hall July 4. Vic had been involved on village council and the Rabbit Lake Hospital Board for many years. Our thoughts go out to Vic's family.

Congratulations go out to Jack and Julie Smith on the birth of their daughter, Georgia Ann, June 27. Goergia is a granddaughter for Jim and Violet Salisbury.

Get well wishes go out to Treva Braithwaite, resident at Rose Gill Lodge, who is recuperating.

If you should drive through our village you will notice that day by day more and more of the familiar orange and yellow Richardson Pioneer elevator is disappearing. Salvage crews began working in the fertilizer and chemical sheds and are now stripping the elevator. The entire structures will come down and be removed very shortly, As with many others our prairie sentinel will be no more.

Carlton Trail Jamboree was a success even though the rain added some quirks and a four-hour power outage Sunday morning had organizers scrambling to make alternative arrangement for power. Approximately 1,100 people filled the hill to hear their favourite performers or just get caught up in the moment and have fun. The Rabbit Lake Agricultural Association thanks everyone who worked, and those who attended for their support.

The Rabbit Lake Library held a bottle drive during the month of May and they were able to collect $308 for future programming. The next bottle drive will begin Aug. 14. On July 24 the Library kicked off a three-part kid's project, piñata building.

Aug. 3 will be a busy day in Rabbit Lake . Gordon and Norman Sherman are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an afternoon party in Rabbit Lake Community Hall followed by a supper. Across the street at the Rabbit Lake Seniors' Hall the Borisenko/Schneider families will be having a reunion supper to culminate a day that will begin at the Borisenko homestead, have some ball and bunnock in Rabbit Lake and then finish with a supper.

You might want to pencil in Aug. 24 on your calendar. The Rabbit Lake and District Board of Trade will be once again hosting Rabbit Lake Days here in the village.

As we were travelling this weekend I noticed that some hay has been made and I even noticed a farmer pulling his haying equipment down the road. I think we all know that when haying activities start, so does the rain. Actually we have a morning debate over the need for rain. I know that in the village we could use a good shower to moisten the topsoil, however some farmers are saying that it is still wet in some of their fields. I couldn't help but notice the nice crops in the area, so I will sound like the farmers who came in for coffee and say, "If the frost stays away and the hail doesn't fall and the fall stays open until the end of November, we should have a good crop."
