Picnic held at community centre

After some welcome rain towards the end of last week, the sun shone for most of Sunday and the forecast was for "hot" weather during the coming week - quite a change.

After some welcome rain towards the end of last week, the sun shone for most of Sunday and the forecast was for "hot" weather during the coming week - quite a change. One day last week the high temperature of the day was plus 14 degrees C, which is rather unusual for July.

Ben Ponto and son Royce have been visiting relatives and friends in the area. They make their home at New Market, Ont. Ben and his wife Elsie moved from the Walter district to Ontario in 1958. Ben was born in the Maple Creek area in 1917. In 1927 the family moved to the Walter District north of Waseca. He has made many trips back to Saskatchewan since moving to Ontario. He has many relatives and friends in this area. While here he visited with his niece, Bev, and her husband Vic Hult and their family and with friends. Ben is very active. He still loves to dance and has many hobbies. We wish him good health as he returns to his home in Ontario.

Maureen Bexson, daughter Colleen and grand-daughter Taylor visited with Christine Pike Sunday. They had been taking part in the Vermilion Draft Horse Show. While here, they dropped in at the Community Picnic being held at the Forest Bank Community Centre grounds.

Everyone present enjoyed the 11 a.m. get together at the Community Centre grounds. A good crowd was in attendance to enjoy lots of good food at the noon time and the visiting which took place. A short meeting followed to discuss some aspects of the school building sale.

Eileen Evans spent several days in B.C. recently visiting relatives. Among those she visited was her daughter Joanne and Ben Rawlinson and their daughter, Emma at Kelowna.

Maureen Bexson and Christine Pike spent some time at Lloydminster Exhibition Maureen presented the Rusty Bexson Memorial Trophy to the winner of the six-horse hitch.

Among her activities this summer, Maureen attended the Northern Alberta Lily Show in Edmonton where she won several first and second prizes for floral arrangements. Congratulations, Maureen.
