Jaya Hoy and Lisa Hornung of North Battleford and Terry Heckman of Saskatoon presented a concert at Third Avenue United Church Dec. 9. Hornung is seen with a microphone, normally not necessary at Music for the Soul concerts, however she chose to use the microphone for a presentation of speech arts, offering the animal ditties of The Turtle, The Python, Hyena and Hog.

Story:'Terry Heckman, principal trumpet of the Saskatoon Symphony since 1991, said he was absolutely honoured to be able to come back to North Battleford recently and perform again with Lisa Hornung and Jaya Hoy.

Hornung, mezzo soprano, and Hoy, pianist, are the founders of a recital series they have titled "Music for the Soul," now in its third season. They have been bringing in artists from the world stage as well a highlighting top talent from the Battlefords, offering music that runs the gamut from classical to contemporary.

Heckman performed with them Dec. 9 for the second time.

"It's such a pleasure to share the stage with my two very good friends," he said.

He described Hoy and Hornung as people who play for all the right reasons.

"You," he said to the audience, "are very lucky to have this concert series."

Despite the deep cold that day, there were about 50 people in attendance.

Third Avenue United Church will also be the venue for a concert Dec. 23 featuring Hornung and accompanist Gary Gansauge as they present their annual Candlelight Christmas Concert. It will take place at 7 p.m. and is open to all. A donation will be collected at the door and given to a local charity.

Hornung said one of her vocal students, Dave Tupling, will be performing as well.
