Art, art and more art - the summer is filled with activities for all types of artists. This past weekend, Aug. 10 - 12, the North Battleford Arts Club hosted a fun-filled three days of painting, sculpting and life drawing. It was a bring-your-own-art-supplies event which made it interesting.

The group is primarily the Saturday morning drawing group along with watercolour and oil painters from Saskatoon all the way to Wainright, Alta., with a couple of sculptors and audiovisual artists thrown in for good measure. This year, Paynton artists Ellery Russell and Mariann Taubensee joined the artists' retreat and experienced an entirely different atmosphere.

The relaxed nature of painters was just what the doctor ordered. Work if you want, network and learn from others for a while, a potluck supper followed by the life drawing session that lasted two to three hours, then chill-out time before bed.

The Paynton crew took some of the guests on a tour of the areastarting with a trip across the Paynton ferry, a shortgarden tour at Mariann's, then the farmers' market to check out the local artand pick up a couple jars of jelly.

What more could an artist want than a bunch of other artists to be around with, with no cell service, no Internet, no TVand no responsibilities for a whole weekend?
