A beef-on-a-bun luncheon was held Oct. 18, to celebrate the 23rd annual Co-op Week. Thanks to everyone who supported this venture, sponsored jointly by the Synergy Credit Union, Lloydminster and District Co-op and the Co-op Agro; $1,525.25 was raised and donated to the local ambulance fund.

The Grade 5 and 6 volleyball teams from Neilburg Composite School recently went to Lashburn to play in two tournaments. There were enough local players to make up two teams. Team One players were Ethel Borja, Tia Gibler, Konnor Kiscock, Brayden Koch, Johnn Peters and Colton Schmidt. Team Two players were Carter Cammidge, Dominic Madlang-Awa, Jillian McCord, Clayton Schmidt, Braxton Snell and Kyle Asa Williams.

At the tournaments, Neilburg played teams from Marsden, Lashburn and Marshall. The students played well and both teams won three out of four sets on each of the days at Lashburn. The students have improved with their serves and sets and bumps. We had a fun time playing this season. Callie Snell, Pam Gibler and Lorelei Koch and Tanya Zakall were the volunteer drivers.

The Neilburg School Community Council is planning to hold a yet to be named winter festival in January. The school is planning an evening to celebrate the winter months with a bonfire and entertainment. Hot dogs, marshmallows and hot chocolate will be provided. Please save your real Christmas trees after the holidays are over, and we will either have you drop them off at the school or arrange for pickup in January. Watch for dates!

NCS is still looking for a few costume items for this year's production of the Christmas concert. Needed are three Elvis wigs, five Elvis belts (wide, light-coloured, possibly rhinestone), and some Elvis shirts.

NCS raised a total of $415.01 for Pennies for UNICEF. With this amount a "school in a box," a bicycle, a soccer ball and books and pencils can be purchased. Again we thank you all.

With the new telephone books out, NCS is asking you to take your old phonebooks down to the recycling centre and then call the school at 823-4313 with the number you recycled. The Sasktel Pioneers program gives the school 10 cents per recycled phonebook. Numbers need to be in by the end of January.

Adult volleyball games are played in the NCS gym Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. Come join in.

A huge thank you to Everett Putnam who donated a dovetail machine to the Industrial Arts workshop.

Librarian Deb Hein reports the Every Reader is a Star Book Fair was a success. The school sold $1,769.65 in books and supplies. With this total, NCS earned $830.85 to spend on Scholastic products. The family event winner was Evan Sawtell. He purchased $19 worth of products and donated the remaining $6 back to the school so they could buy another book for the library. Thanks, Evan!

Other winners from the book fair included Carl Sawtell, Gus Wightman, Ana Giesbrecht, Cooper Whitney, Tidja Hoeppner-Basha, Lindnsay Gibbons, Colton Walde, Aliana Worman, Ethel Borja, Clayton Schmidt, Danielle Scott, Jarrod Ryan and Ashton Schmidt winning posters. Books went to Ashley Ostrom, Josh Blackman, Eugene Rathwell, Tavi Moth, Devon Whitney, Paige Johnston, Jorin Black, Cassidy Spence, Kale Worman, Brayden Koch, Taeya Wiens, Isobel Ramsay-Mackenzie, Konnor Hiscock, Eduard Borja, Hallie Goodfellow, Carter Cammidge, McKenna Goodfellow, Hannah Prystupa, Nick Hein, Kaylyn Koch and Shawn Whitney.
