A sudden change in the weather has dumped a nasty amount of soft white wet snow all over the area. It has left highways and streets in icy, slippery conditions. The snow plows are out to clear as much as they can. Just slow down and take things easy while driving and walking. Just the end of Old Man Winter's blast to finish off the mild winter we have had.
With such a mild winter and late freeze up when the geese flocks left, they must not have gone too far when they migrated. They seem to be arriving in flocks, getting prepared to start their nesting season early for the goslings to enjoy our warm summer days.
The robins are arriving as well, and some of them could have been about all winter long. The crows are on their way for the summer, but they are going to have a big battle on with so many big ravens about. They seem to be out everywhere all year long now. It will not be long before the smaller songbirds arrive. There could be a few horned larks and bluebirds about now. They like to come early. It is so welcoming to see them all coming back for another nesting season.
Battleford West Place Bridge Road Development on Telegraph Road in Battleford has been having a few problems with the big snow melt. With the thawing and freezing at nights, some of the drains have been freezing up causing water build up. They have had to get extra help to steam the drains open to let the water drain.
The annual change in time has taken place over the past weekend. We are so thankful not to have to make the one-hour change. A person has to keep in mind if you are doing any travelling to be aware. It also has changed the time of a few television programs and reports. So we all have to get used to it. The next time change will be later in the fall.
Easter is early this year and the school students will be having a few days off. It will give the school bus drivers and the teachers a little break. They will have one more holiday, Victoria Day, in May before school ends in June for the summer holiday.
