Walter and Mary Tait from Meota, spent one month in Scotland as of June 12 and daughter Gail Scorgie was there for two weeks, and submitted this report to me.
We divided their time amongst Mary's brother, who lives near Brechin in Angus County and her two sisters, one in Kirriemuir in Angus County and one in Biggar, in Lanarkshire.
Our hosts were asked to plan our time while over there and they made sure we visited relatives and friends as well as interesting places such as Glamis and Edinburgh Castles, and a sail on Loch Katrine which is the water supply to the city of Glasgow.
Another day was spent at the Falkirk Wheel, an invention to lift boats from one river to another on a much higher level. Falkirik is the birthplace of Tommy Douglas, which was well documented there.
We drove up several highland glens to enjoy the scenery, but noticed the absence of sheep that used to dot the hills. It seems sport hunting for game has taken over. Walter visited the house his father was born in and the school he went to. Both are still being used.
Railways that had been dismantled a few years ago are being built again to take traffic off the roads.
