The Village of Borden has moved into new premises at 206 - 1st Ave. across from the Borden Co-op hardware. The office used to be located there before moving into the RM office, but it was feasible to move back to their own quarters.
The building was completely renovated on the inside with new windows, doors and siding and all new furniture. Administrator is Jennifer King. The office is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon, 1 to 5 p.m. and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 7 p.m. Mayor of Borden is Tom Redhead and councillors are Ian Tracksell, Terry Tkaczyk, Tony Martens and Cody Bradshaw. Maintenance crew members are Peter Thiessen, Allan Elliot and BJ Berg.
The Borden Friendship Club held their monthly meeting March 9. Upcoming is the annual meeting April 13 at 7 p.m. along with the monthly meeting when a new executive will be elected.
The club have invited Cashback and he is putting on a concert Sunday, April 17. Admission is by donation with the proceeds going to the Borden Firefighters and Borden Care Home emergency generator.Â
The club will be inviting other clubs the first part of June for a program and supper.
Winners of the last Kaiser tournament were Florence Neufeld and Art Flath and upcoming Kaiser tournament is March 15 and 29 at 7 p.m. Winners of the crokinole tournament March 8 were Martha Rempel, first, and tied for second were Delmar Hamm, Ruben Rempel and Ed Neufeld. The last bingo for the season is March 16 at 7 p.m.
There will be a farewell program and service for Tony and Michelle Martens and family Sunday, April 3 at 11 a.m. in the Borden Friendship Club Room. The Riverbend Fellowship will provide a hot meal at 12:15 p.m. Everyone is invited to this farewell and those coming for the meal are asked to bring dessert or salad.
Tony has been the pastor of the Mennonite/Riverbend Fellowship Church for the past 15 years and felt it was time to move on. McKinley and Zach attend Borden School and will attend until the end of the school year. There is a farewell card at the Borden Co-op grocery to sign and donations to a community gift can also be made if desired
Radisson Royal Purple No. 347 held their meeting March 7 at the home of Tina Hessell. The lodge is selling Saskatchewan Elks Charity Appeal tickets with the early bird draw May 20 and the main draw for a car or $20,000 is June 11. Tickets are at the General Store in Radisson or from the ladies.
A $50 donation went in to Telemiracle, March is Brain Injury Awareness Month and the Saskatchewan Royal Purple kicked off their annual BrainLove campaign March 1. Acquired brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability in children and young adults worldwide. Seventy per cent of survivors are between ages 18 and 28 and males are twice as likely as females to acquire a brain injury, with half of all brain injuries the result of motor vehicle collisions. There were 2,200 new cases in Saskatchewan each year.
The lodge will be donating to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children next month. Since this is Radisson Lodge’s 40th anniversary, the ladies are trying to come up with some ideas on how to celebrate the milestone.
Congratulations to Rachel Sutherland from Borden who won the intermediate class in public speaking at the Crown Hill 4-H speak-offs in Hafford on March 13. The district 4-H public speaking will be held in Hafford on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Hafford School.
