Old fools take the stage at BTEC fundraiser

You've heard the old saying, there's no fool like an old fool. Do you even know what that means? It means old people are supposed to be wise, so if an old person behaves foolishly, it is worse than a young person behaving foolishly.

Elvis was one of the legends on stage at the Battlefords Trade and Education Centre fundraiser.

You've heard the old saying, there's no fool like an old fool. Do you even know what that means? It means old people are supposed to be wise, so if an old person behaves foolishly, it is worse than a young person behaving foolishly. So Saturday night at the Battleford Trade and Education Centre fundraiser there were a couple of old fools. But do they have fun? Yes they do.

Maymont Legends performed for that fundraiser and just about all the performers were 70 or older. How many of you that age still behave like old fools? The crowd was great. Thanks everyone for coming out.

Performers were Benny Stenerson (Johnny Cash) Doreen Duchnitski (Anne Murray), Carl Ross (George Jones) and performing with Carl his wife Maureen (Tammy Wynette). Jean Dumont entertained the crowd with a skit featuring Patsy Cline's She's Got You. Performing Elvis Presley was Mel Deagnon with his Jardinières, Carol Deagnon and Maureen Ross. To end the show Shelley Bloom (Rita McNeil) had some of the crowd in tears with her song Men of the Deep. The lights were turned down and some of the fellas came out with helmet lights aglow. What a fun night we all had. Our back up band - and where would the performers be without them - included Jon Sloan, always a perfectionist, Thelma Boychuck, Arron Freeman and Doreen Duchnistski.

Maymont held a Mother's Day Tea May 10. There were 22 people who attended. The mothers were treated to angel food cake, strawberries and whipped cream. There was a small table with garage sale items and a door prize that was won by Gertie Sherman. The Winner of the Maymont gift basket and blanket was Bob McLeod.

Maymont seniors are holding a jam session and pot luck supper May 27 in the newly renovated seniors' centre. Please join us for supper and entertainment will be provided after supper.

A trade show is being hosted May 24. We now have 22 vendors. Doors open at the Maymont Hall at 11 a.m. and remain open until 4 p.m. Admission is $3 and lunch will be available to purchase. Please join us for this opportunity to purchase gift and household needs and more.

Maymont will be having a garage sale June 21 at the Maymont Hall 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tables are $15. Anyone wanting to donate to the hall please give Mel or Carol a call to make arrangements to drop off donations (306-389-2440). Burgers, hot dogs and pop will be available for purchase. In the evening there will be a pot luck supper and jam session.
