No summer downtime for guild members

Summer is a time for many activities. Perhaps you spend time at the cabin, away on vacation, gardening or relaxing at home with a good book. However, for a few enthusiastic Rivers' Edge guild members the time was spent quilting.

Some members of the Rivers' Edge Quilters have spent their summers working on individual projects.

Summer is a time for many activities.

Perhaps you spend time at the cabin, away on vacation, gardening or relaxing at home with a good book. However, for a few enthusiastic Rivers' Edge guild members the time was spent quilting. Yes, the regular monthly meeting and instruction sessions, both aspects of the quilt year, did not take place, but these ladies were often found at the Don Ross Centre craft room working on their individual projects.

The projects are soon to be completed but at present fall into the "work in progress" category. Industry and creativity abound as guild members work on quilts, table runners, wall hangings and yet to be revealed projects. The show and tell at the first meeting of the new season is bound to be colourful.

Pat Downie, program co-ordinator, has been busy preparing an interesting and varied schedule for the upcoming season. For those who are interested, there will be an opportunity to construct a quilt, using basic techniques that make it suitable for the beginner quilter or those who want a striking pattern without the challenge of advanced skills.

The first business meeting is Friday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. in the craft room and new members are invited to attend and meet the guild members. The guild provides an opportunity to learn a new skill, work on one's own projects, receive instruction from knowledgeable people, and if one so desires, participate in charity work.

Current members will be looking forward to hearing about their respective summer activities and learn of new quilt shops to visit that members encountered on their summer journeys, as well as formulate their plans for quilt projects in the months ahead. For further information please contact Irene at 937-3551 or Barb at 445-0486. Hope to see you there at the Don Ross craft room.
