No shortage of snow for annual rally

And it snows and it snows and it snows. Sunday, my son and I went out to Meeting Lake to do some ice fishing and although we were not successful catching fish, walking in the deep snow provided a workout.

And it snows and it snows and it snows. Sunday, my son and I went out to Meeting Lake to do some ice fishing and although we were not successful catching fish, walking in the deep snow provided a workout. In town the grader is trying to keep the streets drivable but there is quickly becoming no place to put the snow! Remember winter 2012?

One of the things that will be different this year is that we know that there will be enough of the white stuff for the Rabbit Lake and District Agricultural Association annual snowmobile rally on March 2. Tickets are out and it looks like a great time.

Jan. 18, Rabbit Lake Branch of the Lakeland Library hosted the annual Kaiser tournament in the Rabbit Lake Hall. Although the weather was cold and the roads were not great, nine tables of players had a great time. Carl Sankey was the high winner and you might want to ask Steven Clarkson about his score. While you're at it you might want to ask Rose Moore how many tables she moved to as the evening went on. Oh, it is all in good fun and the library appreciates the financial boost. This money allows programs that benefit the whole community to take place. A big thank you to all the prize donors. There were lots of prizes and very nice ones at that.

Burger night and bunnock is still a big thing. Last Tuesday there were seven bunnock teams all competing for the "no" prize honours. Thanks to the volunteers who make this all happen week after week.

The community sends its condolences to Noellie Schaan on the passing of her brother.

The Olde Mill Players will be once again presenting their supper theatres at the Mayfair community hall. This year the production is called They'd Hang You in Nashville and the dates are Feb. 16-17 and 23-24.

I notice on the community bulletin board another first for Rabbit Lake. Cheralyne Martens and Jessie McNabb are operating Spring Coulee Equestrian Centre. This will offer horse camps for children and youth, riding lessons and trail rides. This might be something to think about as a summer family activity.

Now a heads up to those who give me gentle and sometimes not so gentle jabs when I do not get news into the paper regularly enough, Shelly and I will be in Cuba for the first two weeks of February and I am not coming home just to type the news.
