The big treasure chest draw for the contest Delta Co-op and Unity Credit Union are partnering for was drawn Thursday night (will have winner and more details in next week's column). This contest was to celebrate this week's Co-operatives Week as well as 2012 International Year of the Co-op celebrations. From Oct. 1 to 18 members could pick up game tiles at either Unity Credit Union or Delta Co-op to help them complete a slogan on their game card in order to earn a chance to pick a key that could open a treasure chest filled with goodies. In addition to the treasure chest draw all of the Delta Co-op locations held a variety of events, specials and draws throughout the week.

The UFC steak and lobster dinner night was another great success, thanks to the hardworking UFC committee and their volunteers. Businesses again generously donated prizes to the silent auction table as well as those two terrific gift certificate trees. Following a fantastic meal and the draws, guests were entertained by the band Flashback. A surprise donor was at the event and I will be thrilled to give you more details in next week's column.

Don't forget to vote next week in the municipal elections, Oct. 24. Although all the council seats have been acclaimed, there are two candidates running for the mayor's seat. Coffee row folks are still talking about those Riders who are still surprising us. Just when we thought they were unstoppable they missed a key opportunity to clinch a playoff spot in their away game against Edmonton Oct. 13. There are a number of Unity fans headed to Mosaic Oct. 20 to cheer hard for the Riders in their next matchup against the Alouettes. The upcoming municipal elections in town for mayor and in surrounding RMs also has a place at the coffee row table ... So you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week ...
