HUMBOLDT — The ninth annual Terry Fox Run was "successful," said co-ordinator Candy Adams.
“The people of Humboldt are very generous and very committed to this movement. Each person taking part in the run seems to be quite dedicated and really wants to do this.”
The Humboldt run drew 28 participants who walked, jogged and cycled their way around the 10 kilometre course. They raised $1,400 [around $2,540 in 2019 dollars], which is used “exclusively for research.” Mrs. Adams was assisted in operating the run by Pat Deutscher and members of Toc Alpha.
On a provincial level, Michael Phelps, office manager for the provincial office of the Terry Fox Run said 81 of 183 sites had reported by 4 p.m. Monday [Sept. 18, 1989]. To that point, 4,773 persons had participated in the run raising a total of $97,700 [around $177,500 in 2019 dollars].
Mr. Phelps said, “remember, some of the sites not reporting yet are schools who have slated a series of activities for the week. Also, some are in areas where harvesting is a real factor. They have set activities for the weekend or even next week as opposed to the national day. We expect to see our total participants and the amount raised rise quite substantially.”
