News faces at Rabbit Lake village council table

Well, winter found us with a vengeance! Although no one has measured, I am sure we have had over six inches of snow and it is still October. The faces for the Village of Rabbit Lake council changed Oct. 24.

Well, winter found us with a vengeance! Although no one has measured, I am sure we have had over six inches of snow and it is still October.

The faces for the Village of Rabbit Lake council changed Oct. 24. Beginning at the next monthly meeting, Dave Plummer will be the mayor with Alan Laughlin and Carol Ferguson comprising the council. Congratulations to Dave Plummer on winning the mayoralty race and a big thank you to Greg McKenzie who ran in the election as well. Serving the public does not always bring a lot of thanks so just putting your name forward and being willing to do the job deserves our recognition.

I find it interesting how many people have ideas of how to run things, and how many are critical of those who try, but would never step up to the plate themselves.

Oct. 22 was a special day in the Aumack family. Grayson Smith Aumack was born to Russell and Brenda Aumack, weighing in at seven pounds and eight ounces. Grayson is a brother for Liam. According to Grandpa Randy, this is the first time in 90 years that two boys have been born to an Aumack family. Congratulations to Russell and Brenda and to grandparents Randy and Kathy Aumack.

Paula Henderson has taken over as village administrator for the duration of Brenda's maternity leave. Watch the signs at the village office for the new hours the office will be open. Welcome to Rabbit Lake, Paula.

The council reminds the community to check into the winter landfill hours and that garbage pickup is now being done from the street.

WhistleStop Foods hosted a supper Oct. 26 for couples of the community who have been married for 50 years or more. Ewald and Marian Miller, Cornie and Marlene Martens, Jake and Cecilia Krahn and Duane and Jean Massett were the honoured guests. The couples brought something from their wedding for display and Cecilia was able to wear her wedding dress of 55 years ago.

The Rose Gill Lodge board hosted the annual Halloween dance at the Rabbit Lake Community Hall, Oct. 27. Trevor Pauls provided the music. About 50 people attended the event.

The ham/turkey bingo, silent auction and potluck supper at the Sandwith Hall is Nov. 3. Supper is at 6 p.m. and the bingo is at 7 p.m.

The cow patty bingo, silent auction, potluck supper and entertainment at the Mayfair Hall is Nov. 9. The supper is at 5 p.m. and the bingo is at 6 p.m. Please try to support these community events.

Once again we send our get well wishes to Art Penner and to Vic Ricketts. We hope you are soon able to be back in the community.
