New postmaster at Borden post office

Joyce Orchard, Borden鈥檚 postmaster for the past 14 years, retired as of July 16. Cake and beverages were served at the post office July 14. Replacing her is Dianne Sylvester, who will be Borden鈥檚 new postmaster.

Joyce Orchard, Borden鈥檚 postmaster for the past 14 years, retired as of July 16. Cake and beverages were served at the post office July 14.

Replacing her is Dianne Sylvester, who will be Borden鈥檚 new postmaster. Dianne has been the Borden Lakeland librarian for the past years, and resigned that position to take over her duties as postmaster.

Joyce was presented with a framed print from Canada Post July 14. The community wishes Joyce all the best on her retirement.

Winning the dessert of the month from the Borden Library was Duncan Sutherland, who received a freshly baked Saskatoon pie baked by his grandma Helen Sutherland.

Upcoming is the Halcyonia School heritage picnic and games Aug. 8 at 5 p.m., starting with a potluck supper. People are encouraged to bring their vintage vehicles and dress in vintage outfits if possible. Halcyonia is four miles north of Borden and six miles east, or 14 miles straight east from the Red Bull at Radisson.

Borden Museum garden tour and supper July 19 was cancelled due to lack of participants, but people are still encouraged to drop in at the museum to see the doll display, toy museum, barbershop, butcher shop, replica of John Diefenbaker鈥檚 home, life before power display and others.

The museum is open Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 1 to 5 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. There is no charge but donations are gratefully accepted. There are supervised games for kids Tuesdays from 2 to 4 p.m., Aug. 20. For more information or to book call 306-997-4517or 306-997-4444.

Congratulations to Stephanie Derbawka who graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan and is now working for the Corman Park Veterinary Service. Stephanie is the daughter of Stephen and Marlene Derbawaka of Borden.
