HUMBOLDT — After a decade of service on the streets of North Battleford, Prince Albert and Sturgeon Lake, Humboldt’s newest RCMP officer is adapting to a focus on community-based policing.

Cst. Troy Link has been with the Humboldt RCMP since May 1.

The Melfort native’s first four years were spent in North Battleford, followed by seven years in Prince Albert and Sturgeon Lake.

Humboldt is “a completely new world for me,” Link said.

In North Battleford – ranked the most dangerous city in the country in 2018 by Ѳ𲹲’s magazine – the constable was often “on the street, doing enforcement and responding to calls constantly.”

“Same thing in Sturgeon Lake and Prince Albert, constantly going to complaints and dealing with criminal matters,” he said. “We still deal with criminal matters [in Humboldt], but they're kind of few and far between. It's a different sort of policing.”

In Humboldt, Link said he’s been afforded the opportunity to focus on more positive community involvement, such as the branch’s positive ticketing campaign.

“I'm looking forward to the change, and one that's going to be a more positive place for my family to be raised and for me to work,” he said.
