New generation being born, family names continue in community

Rabbit Lake News

Since the groundhog did not see his shadow, we might be in for an early spring. Actually, except for a few days in January, we haven’t really had winter yet. We, like most places, got hit with the rain and freezing rain. We could have done without that. Calving has started so we need the weather to co-operate. With the mild winter, we should see an increase in wildlife this summer.

Burgers and bunnock are going again at the Rabbit Lake arena. This year it is on Thursday nights.

It has been a while since I have written the news. Partly because we were away in Yuma, Ariz., for a month and partly because it seemed that not much was happening. If people want things put in the paper regularly please let me know and send me the details of events.

Congratulations go to Russell and Brenda Aumack on the birth of a son, Keatley Wallace, and to Keelan Kowerchuk on the birth of Hunter Michael David. It is encouraging to see a new generation being born and family names being continued in the community.

The Rabbit Lake and District branch of the Lakeland Library hosted a Kaiser tournament at the Rabbit Lake Community Hall Jan. 22. Nine tables of players turned out with everyone getting a prize. This is a fundraiser to help the library with various programming. Joan Dzialo was the winner of the treat of the month.

The Rabbit Lake Housing Authority has hired Paul Day as the local housing unit maintenance man and Christine Regnier-Gaudet as the housing manager. Presently there are two single units available.

There are several Rabbit Lake children involved in 4-H at Medstead. The club held its annual public speaking competition Feb 1. Maria, Marti Beth and Morgan McNabb, Liam Aumack and Jaeger Moore all presented speeches that were entertaining and informative. Marti Beth, Maria and Jaeger will proceed to the next level of competition. Congratulations.

The Rabbit Lake Community Hall board hosted the annual pancake and sausage supper Feb. 9, Shrove Tuesday, with proceeds going to the hall.

There will be a dine and dance at the Rabbit Lake Community Hall Feb. 13. This event is sponsored by the Rabbit Lake Hotel and will feature the Electric Cattle Company as entertainment and JK Kitchen as caterer.

The Olde Mill Players will be performing Hot Bed Hotel at the Mayfair Community Hall Feb. 19, 20 and 21. This year they will be performing only one weekend. Apparently it is almost sold out at this time. This is always a great meal and a hilarious evening.

The Rabbit Lake and District Agricultural Association will be sponsoring the annual snowmobile rally and roast beef supper March 5. Tickets and 50-50 tickets are available at the Rabbit Lake Café and the Rabbit Lake Hotel. There is still snow and this is always a fun day.

This is the time for annual general meetings. A big thanks goes to all those who volunteer their time and energy on the many boards and committees. If you have ideas and a commitment to the community, attend the AGMs and see where you can make a difference. The AGM for the library is March 15, the Senior Sunrise Circle was Feb 10 and the ag association and the community hall AGMs will be in mid-March.
