Ten members of the Baljennie Community Co-operative Hall Ltd. met June 13 at the community centre for one of the final meetings to end the co-operative part of the community club. A show of hands indicated almost all members in favour of ending the co-op. There is a substantial amount of paperwork to do before it can be sent to head office in Regina for approval. Once that is done, the new community club, Baljennie Community and Cemetery organization, will get more organized to continue with community activities.

At long last our area got a good soaking of rain. Close to three or four inches in the past three weeks is at least a start to what we need for a growing season. Most crops are up and needed this rain. Now we need some sunshine. Its too bad the nights are so cool, even near frost. Hopefully that is in the past now.

The Old River Road Battleford - Saskatoon Trail is now open for through traffic. The creek at the 16-mile hill was completely washed out this spring. The RM of Battle River has been out to repair the big washout and maintain the trail.

The whole trail lacks gravel and is not in good condition if the weather is wet and rainy. The trail is not really maintained much anymore as it is no longer the main road to North Battleford, but it has always been a scenic route that most nature minded people make a point of travelling at least once a year. It is most attractive in the fall when the tree leaves have turned and some wildlife is about. The trial winds along the North Saskatchewan River most of the way.

The RM of Glenside road graders have been out on the main roads getting them into better condition for summer driving. The main roads over the past years have had a lot of heavy trucks and farm equipment travelling on them.

Some sloughs close to the roads causing problems are being drained by pumping them out.

There have been a good number of potholes to fill and smooth out. Some of the main roads have taken a real beating due to frost boils making the road surface break up badly.

Some frost boils areas are so deep they are being dug out, repacked and rebuilt with new clay and gravel. Highway 376 from Highway 40 south to Perdue has many areas where the pavement is broken up into the clay base of the highway. A stretch on the Maymont Bridge hill, plus routes into Sonningdale and Struan areas have been broken up and vehicles are getting stuck in the mud. The highway department men are constantly doing patch work in the hopes to make conditions much better. It's a never ending job. So many other areas of the province have the same problems this spring.
