The Neilburg School Community Council held their annual general meeting Oct. 10. All positions were filled by acclamation. Karen Putnam is the chair with Carla Schmidt as the vice-chair. Sharon Sawtell is the secretary with Bev Nattress as the Marsden representative. Mariah Nattress is the student representative and Sean Peterson is the member-at-large. Principal Diana Worman and vice-principal Brenda Gross will sit on the board as principal and teacher representative.

The SCC is still looking for parents to join the board. We would love your input and, now that all the positions are filled, it would be a "no pressure" commitment. The meetings are held once a month and last between one and two hours. If you can come to one meeting (or them all), please consider joining and helping to make our great school even better! The next meeting will be held Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the school library.

Parent/teacher interviews were held Nov. 5 and 7.

The Grade 12 students are selling poinsettias again this year. They can be ordered until Nov. 15 and are available in pink, red and white and are priced at $13 each.

Homework assignments, due for each grade, are now available on the NCS website. Go to www.ncstrojans.ca and click on "Homework-Elementary" or "Homework-Middle and High School" to check to see what assignments your student needs to complete. Thanks to Mr. Walso for setting this up.

Mrs. Kerr-Goodfellow is proud to announce the Drama 20 and 30 students are presenting School of Nerds later this month. There will be a dessert theatre production Nov. 29, with tickets at $8, starting at 7:30 p.m. The following evening a dinner theatre presentation will be held. Tickets for that are $20. All tickets can be purchased from Mrs. Kerr-Goodfellow prior to Nov. 23.

The Grade 7 field trip to Wainwright, scheduled for Oct. 24 and cancelled due to the snow, was rescheduled for Nov. 7, with the same itinerary.

The elementary school students did a wonderful job selling coupon books again this year. They sold a total of 180 books. The proceeds from this fundraiser go towards classroom trips and other classroom extras. The top seller was the Peters family, selling 18 books. The prize they chose was a Nintendo 3DS player. The second top seller was Eugene Rathwell who sold 15 books. His prize was a Blu-ray Disc player. The third top seller for the second year in a row were the O'Grady family selling 14 books. They chose to take $50 as their prize.

Tied for fourth top seller, selling 10 books each, were Taeya Wiens, Kaylyn and Bradyn Koch and Eduard and Ethel Borja. They each chose to take a $25 cash prize. Twenty-four other students got to choose a small prize as their names were pulled out of the bucket.

Throughout the sales period there were an additional 21 students who won during the daily draws. The large random draw winners were: grand prize, Jillian McCord who chose a Nintendo Wii and two games; second prize, Wyatt and William Downie, $75; third prize, Devon and Kyle Whitney, Tony Hawk Ride; fourth prize, Aliana and Kale Worman, a climbing car.

The top selling classroom was the Grade 5 and 6s who will get $60 for their class pizza party at a later date.

Minor hockey referees are needed. Make some extra money this weekend. An upcoming clinic will be held Dec. 2 at the St. Walburg High School. Once a month, refs meet for a treat (pizza, ice cream, etc.) and discuss any questions or issues that come up. If you are interested in becoming a referee, contact Stephanie Gibbons.

The magazine sales for the NCS high school students are now completed. The students enjoyed their group rewards Nov. 2: the car stuff, a contest to see how many people could be stuffed into a compact car; the thong dance, when the SRC members had to parade around wearing thongs over their clothes; pie in the face, where selected high school students "pied" fellow students from Grades 7 through 12; and the top 10 magazine sales people got pizza and pop in the student lounge.

A mass order for "Spirit Wear" will be placed shortly. Contact Cathy Ducherer for details. You can go online, type in your order and print out the order form. Do NOT send it in. Bring the form and your money to the school before Nov. 13. This is a great Christmas idea.

The school is collecting loose change to help pay for the 26 Operation Christmas Child boxes that will be sent out soon. Two boxes are filled for each grade level. Each grade from kindergarten through 12 signs a Christmas card in their classroom. The card goes in their classes' gift boxes.

If your family would like to fill a box, there are extras at the school and we would gladly take it to the Lloydminster drop-off for you. Contact Mrs. Kerr-Goodfellow for more information. Each box costs $7 to send, so we'd appreciate any monies you can give to our change collection. We plan to take the boxes to Lloyd Nov. 14.

Hat day was held Nov. 2 with students welcome to wear a hat if they paid $2. All funds go to SRC initiatives.

This spring the SRC started collecting pennies for UNICEF. As of Oct. 31, $375.03 was collected. This will buy a school-in-a-box, a bicycle, books and pencils. A big thanks to all who donated to the UNICEF cause.
