Dean Piermantier, sales manager for Trans-Care Rescue Ltd. out of Langham, was at the Neilburg Fire Hall Sept. 19. He gave  demonstrations using a cold fire aerosol extinguisher to put out household fires. First he put out a grease fire in a frying pan and then he put out a burning mixture of diesel fuel and gasoline. The Neilburg Volunteer Fire Department are selling the extinguishers as a fundraiser for the next few weeks.  They can be obtained from Mike Fouhse or any member of the department.

Mrs. Winsor reports the cross-country team from Neilburg Composite School went to Unity Sept. 12. They all had a great run on a beautiful day. Kaylyn Koch finished 34th out of 107 girls. Way to go! Shana Flicek also had a great run, placing higher than in the standings last year. Devon Whitney, Shawn Whitney and Ashton Schmidt raced with a group of 139 boys. The boys also had an excellent run. The team also participated in a meet at Wilkie, Sept. 19. They will go to Biggar Sept. 24.

The general annual meeting for the Neilburg School Community Council will be held Oct. 21 in the school library. The group needs new members. The time commitment is small with only one meeting per month - but it is very rewarding as you can help to make the local school the best it can be. We are also known to occasionally bribe the members with fresh baking. Please come out.

The Grade 10 class is holding a bottle drive Oct. 2. They will be going door to door collecting any bottles or other recycling you would like to donate to their fundraiser. All proceeds will go towards the class field trip. Mrs. Knorr-Bingham advises you can also phone the school and leave your name and address so arrangements can be made for someone to pick up your items, if you have them ready prior to the actual drive. Rural folk can drop donations off at the school prior to Oct. 2 or make arrangements for a visit.

Sincere sympathy goes out to the Vick and Spence families. Glenadean Lorraine Vick (nee Brownell) passed away Aug. 30 in the Lloydminster Hospital at the age of 80 from lung cancer. A come and go tea was held in her memory Sept. 20 in the Neilburg Community Hall. Glenadean was born in Lashburn and was the youngest of four children. She attended school at Cozy Nook in the RM of Manitou Lake and then at Caronport High School.

As the wife of a Canadian airman she spent four years in France, returning to Canada in 1958. Glenadean spent a lot of time packing until settling in Winnipeg, where she met and married Jim Vick and Heather and James became a part of the family. Glenadean loved children and, for a number of years, worked as a nurse's aide in the children's hospital in Winnipeg and ran an in-home day care. She returned to school and completed an early childhood education certification at Red River Community College. She also volunteered for many years for St. John's Ambulance.

Glenadean is especially remembered as everyone's mother and grandmother and for her wonderful sense of humour. The coffee was always on and the toy box was always ready for little hands. She enjoyed her gardens, her cats (of which there were many over the years), visits from her family, friends and neighbours and was always delighted to get calls from faraway friends. She was a true friend to many and always had time to talk and listen.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends which include: Terri (Tim) Gustafson, Toni Fehr, Gary (Paula) Fehr, Heather (David) Spence and her grandchildren Kelly, Jesse, David, Dallas, Dustin, and Cassidy; sister Marion Orthner, and many extended family members. She was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Edna Brownell, her sister Edith, brother Edwin and her husbands, Jerry Fehr and James (Jim) W. Vick.

Appreciation goes out to Cordy Pipeline for their kind donation of two picnic tables to Neilburg Composite School.
