Nasty weather postpones cemetery cleanup

Weather has played havoc with some of the planned community work. May 3 a cemetery cleanup was planned but because of the low temperatures and some snow the work was postponed to a later date that will be announced.

The temperature May 4 was -3 C but no wind so the Waseca Walkathon went ahead. Approximately 20 people left the community centre and walked south to the old Waseca bridge a distance of a little over seven miles. There they had their pictures taken and then were picked up and returned to the community centre for lunch and a social time.

The event was successful with no mishaps. The proceeds will be used to do some much-needed work on the centre and the post office which is part of the building as well as other community enterprises. If anyone is interested in starting a new program that would benefit the community, you are welcome to speak to a member of the centre board. Thank you to the walkers and all volunteers who helped make the day an enjoyable success.

Kathy Campbell, Arlee Lumgair and Bev Hult travelled to Edmonton, Alta. May 2 where they attended a one-day quilting course at the Central Sewing Centre. It was a "free-motion-machine-quilting course" conducted by Joan Statz.

April 15, Henry Moore and his friend, Eleanor Frost, from England, very unexpectedly, arrived at the home of Vic and Bev Hult. Co-ordinating the event were the only family members who knew (since Dec, 2013) - daughters, Melissa and her husband, Roland and Crystal and her husband, José. Henry was a trainee at the Hult farm in 2009.

They flew from England to New York and rented a motor home for their journey. In Canada they enjoyed visiting with the Hult family and the many friends Henry had met in 2009. They travelled back to the United States on April 18 and took in the sights at Mount Rushmore, the Kentucky Derby and the White House in Washington.

What a wonderful Easter surprise!
