HUMBOLDT — For this year’s archives week, the Humboldt and District Museum is going out to the lake.
The museum is having an open house on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. where they’ll have 66 historic photos of people at local lakes. The photo range from the early 1900s to the 1990s.
Lindsey Nydegger, collections clerk at the museum, said they are hoping that people will be able to identify the people, locations and stories behind some of the photos.
“The stories help us tell the history of Humboldt, of the area, of the people that lived here and helps us create better exhibits. They're also used when people have research requests as well,” she said.
“The more information we have about everything, the better we can serve the community and give them all that information.”
There will also be cake and drinks at the open house.
This is not the first time the museum has asked for the public’s help to identify details about historic photos that have come into its possession. Last year, the museum held a similar event, which focused on events during the 1980s.
“We were able to get a lot of those pictures identified,” Nydegger said.
The clerk said there’s a reason the museum chose to focus on lake photos this year.
“Because winter is cold, and we just kind of think about the summer that will come and the warmth that will get here eventually.”
In addition to the open house, the museum will have an exhibit for archives week that started on Feb. 4 and will go until Saturday, Feb. 8.
