Even though dancers were competing out of town as was the high school badminton team, the community was kept hopping with numerous other events being held in Unity April 12.

The Town of Unity hosted a sports taping clinic that included 10 participants plus instructors.

The Region 6 Drama Festival moved into its second day at the high school with Rosetown, John Paul II, North Battleford, Hanley and Davidson school drama clubs joining UCHS for a two-day drama festival, drawing fans from those communities as well as from within Unity.

Mother Nature provided the only frown for the day as the weather started out with snow and remained cold for most of the day, making events in the arena a little brisk but that didn't deter anyone who took part in any of the events at the community centre.

The second annual spring trade show was set up in the Unity curling rink with more than 24 vendors. The event kicked off with a pancake breakfast put on by the Unity Brownies and Girl Guides. Brownie leader Shirley Parkinson was kept busy cooking. She said, "It has been a good event for us as we've been steady." In addition a food booth was run throughout the day for vendors and the public.

Shoppers and browsers could find a variety of wares including the popular cupcake table, a sampling of greenhouse flowers as well as home business offerings and a nice variety of vendor tables. As an example of the traffic that came through the spring trade show, Heart to Heart Cakes, by Markie Winterhalt, sold out of 500 cupcakes and 450 cake pops made in over a dozen varieties.

Attendees remarked they planned on making a day of it as they could browse the spring trade show, then proceed over to the egg hunt taking place on the hockey arena side, or take in these events in reverse order.

Delta Co-op held its 10th anniversary Easter egg hunt on the hockey arena side. Cooper, the Co-op mascot, and the Easter bunny greeted visitors as they arrived and directed them to seating in the bleachers.

Participants were called up in age categories ranging from 0-10 years to gather hundreds of eggs strewn over the arena floor. Each group took only moments to sweep the floor clean of all eggs scattered and then proceeded to the far end to open the eggs to discover either chocolate treats or prize tickets. Over 250 prizes were lined up in the arena lobby for lucky collectors to redeem.

A surprise event, held just for the 10th anniversary, was an adult category and provided many laughs as parents and grandparents raced over the arena surface picking eggs, or ensuring their competitors were not able to pick up eggs. This category also included many prizes for the lucky collectors.

Again, the event was fortunate to have the Sifto rec club provide a free hot dog barbecue for all participants. The Sifto group was kept busy, cooking well over 400 hot dogs throughout the event.

As well, what would a community event be without the popular Balloon Man who was kept busy creating for the many participants in attendance?

Once again, the Delta Co-op egg hunt committee were happy with the turnout and the event, although each year they are presented with a new challenge that they mark down in notes for next year's event.

The cold was rarely mentioned as participants left the arena from one or both events with warm smiles and happy hearts from participating in something fun in town for the weekend. Businesses are always happy to see additional activities in town as it draws customers into their stores and April 12 was a happy Saturday all around.
