There have been a couple of community events in the area with in the last month.
The Edam Community Center held their first Muddy Mucker obstacle event, May 31. There were 105 registered runners who took part on the Don and Colleen Cole farm north and east of Edam. This obstacle course was five kilometres long. All proceeds are earmarked for the Edam Community Centre for the purpose of keeping the facility running. Hats off to the many volunteers who helped make the day a success.
The May winners for the trip of the month draw were Michael and Heather Levasseur with Adrian and Laura LaClare winning the $100. Congratulations to both couples.
The second annual Horse Hill Music Jamboree was held June 13-15. Saskatchewan talent was featured over the weekend with the 2 Man Group, The Blue Sky Country Boys, Mile 55, Legacy, The Hot Tamales, HillBilly Blunt, Lonely J and the Burgess Brothers. Colleen Carr and Heidi Munroe performed the Song Remembers When and, on Sunday, the sister group from St. Walburg called Sisters Grace.
These young ladies were awesome and can sing anything from The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy to their own original music. They have cut a CD and it was to be out June 20. For more information about where you can pick up their CD, contact the girls as [email protected].
Arson Entertainment supplied the music for the dance held Friday evening.
The annual demolition derby was held Saturday with Darcy Bonsan being the victor, winning with only three wheels left on her car. The runners-up were Norm Pepper and Roger Bissonnette. Congratulations to the Calcutta winner, Jamie Cote and crew, who purchased Darcy's car. Another job well done by Henri Blaquiere and Barry Weitzel who gave a play-by-play of the demo derby.
A fireworks display, sponsored by RacKen, brought Saturday evening to a close.
Also on Saturday was a new feature, the car barrel race, which was won by Jamie Cote. Sunday brought the Cowboy Church service and another new event, the ATV rodeo.
There were bouncy houses for the kids to play on and once again Paul Young-Brewster brought his miniature horses in to give rides, and the man tracker games were held Sunday. All in all, an awesome weekend of entertainment.
The proceeds from this event go to the fire department that serves the RM of Turtle River.
